Shift & Schedule
- Day Shift Options (3 x 12-hour shifts):
- 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of Registered Nursing experience in perioperative or surgical settings (5 years preferred)
- Proficient with Epic electronic charting system
- Trauma Level I clinical experience required
- Travel nursing experience required
- Current BLS certification
- Clinical proficiency in the following specialties and procedures:
- Neurology: ALIF, anterior cervical fusion, craniotomy, kyphoplasty, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, XLIF lumbar fusion
- Vascular: Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, arteriovenous fistula repair, carotid angioplasty, carotid artery stenting, carotid endarterectomy, femoral popliteal bypass graft
- Gynecology: Abdominal/vaginal hysterectomy, anterior/posterior repair, dilation & curettage
- Plastics: Abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, free flap microvascular, mastectomy with TRAM flap reconstruction
- Professional Knowledge/Skills: Administration of blood products, infection control, laser safety, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol ("time out") procedure
- Work Settings: Ambulatory OR (required), General OR, Trauma
- Trauma Procedures: Amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, multiple injury management (MVA)
- Podiatry: Ankle fusion, bunionectomy, hallux valgus arthroplasty/arthrodesis, metatarsal surgery
- General Surgery: Appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), laparoscopic assisted procedures, thyroidectomy, Whipple procedure
- Orthopedics: Arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, closed & open fracture reductions, laminectomy/discectomy, ortho/spine, spinal fusion, total joint replacement
- Equipment & Instrumentation: Cell saver (required), electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana table (required)
- Emergency Management: Code response, fire safety, latex allergy precautions, malignant hyperthermia management
- Urology: Cystectomy, cystoscopy, laparoscopic assisted cases, prostatectomy, transurethral resection of the prostate
- Robotics: Da Vinci Xi Surgical System (required), gastrointestinal and urologic robotic surgeries (required)
- Ear/Nose/Throat: Endoscopic sinus procedures, laparoscopic assisted cases, laryngectomy, radical neck dissection, tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, tracheostomy
- Bariatrics: Laparoscopic assisted cases
- Thoracic: VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery) (required)
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality perioperative nursing care during a variety of complex surgical procedures in the OR, maintaining patient safety and comfort
- Prepare and maintain the operating room environment, surgical instruments, and equipment including advanced robotics and specialized tables
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless surgical workflow
- Administer blood products and manage infection control measures adhering to established protocols
- Perform accurate and timely documentation using Epic electronic charting system
- Implement universal protocols including surgical time-outs, specimen handling, and labeling to promote patient safety
- Respond efficiently to emergency situations such as codes, fire, and malignant hyperthermia
- Educate patients and families on preoperative and postoperative care as needed
- Maintain compliance with laser and radiation safety standards
- Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with surgical nursing innovations and standards
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Three or more years’ perioperative nursing experience with preference for five years in high-acuity specialty OR environments
- BLS certification required; additional advanced certifications are advantageous
- Proven experience with Level I trauma cases
- Demonstrated proficiency with Epic electronic medical records system
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within interdisciplinary surgical teams
- Flexibility and adaptability to travel assignments and varied OR schedules
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive hourly rate ranging from $63.00 to $74.00 based on experience and qualifications.
