About This Position

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our healthcare team in Yankton, SD. This vital role involves providing expert nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures within the operating room environment. The successful candidate will ensure adherence to aseptic techniques, assist surgeons and anesthesiologists, and maintain patient safety throughout surgical interventions. This position offers a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week during the AM shift, with an emphasis on delivering high-quality, compassionate care in a fast-paced setting.

Duties

  • Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary sterile equipment and supplies are available and properly sterilized.
  • Assist surgical teams with patient positioning, draping, and instrument handling to facilitate efficient procedures.
  • Monitor patient vital signs continuously and assess their condition before, during, and after surgery.
  • Administer medications, including IV infusions and analgesics, following prescribed protocols while maintaining strict aseptic technique.
  • Document all patient care activities accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Support infection control practices by adhering to sterilization procedures and maintaining a sterile environment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care plans, discharge planning, and post-operative instructions.
  • Respond promptly to intraoperative emergencies or complications, utilizing critical care skills as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.

    Requirements

  • Valid RN license in the state of South Dakota or appropriate licensing for practice in the region.
  • Proven experience working in an operating room setting (OR experience) with knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Familiarity with EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with medical documentation is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and intraoperative patient management.
  • Ability to perform suturing and assist with sterile processing tasks effectively.
  • Critical care experience or background in acute pain management is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and infection control protocols.
