About This Position

At Hands of Heartland, we operate on the idea that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) can do just about anything they put their minds to and that they deserve a safe, supportive, and creative community in which to explore and achieve their aspirations. We are looking for someone to join our Nursing department as we grow and serve more individuals. The Registered Nurse/RN provides routine and emergency assessments and nursing care to ensure optimal health status for each in dividual we support. This position will house in Lincoln, NE and will travel weekly to West Point, NE, and other sites as needed. The Registered Nurse/RN provides routine and emergency assessments and nursing care to ensure optimal health status for each individual we support.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinate physician and health care services for people served

Conduct health care assessments and write health care plans

Facility training and orientation of new staff regarding healthcare procedures

Provide on call assistance to staff as needed

Documentation is completed in an accurate and timely manner on the appropriate forms

Engage in health promotion, prevention, and education activities (i.e., assess for risky behaviors and attempt behavior change)

Assess acute and chronic conditions that could result in rapid physiological deterioration of life-threatening instability

Facilitate admissions, transfers, and/or discharges of patients

Manage the medication system, administer and document medication treatment.

Screen and monitor participants for medical problems/side effects

Travel to other sites in Iowa and Nebraska weekly

Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

Must be able to be licensed as a RN and able to work in the state of Nebraska & Iowa

1 year of general nursing experience, preferably in IDD

A valid driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation is required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must have excellent time management skills

Must possess well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all levels of staff within the organization

Must be highly organized and responsive to immediate needs

Must have sufficient knowledge of computer systems (Word, Excel and Outlook) to develop and maintain necessary programs to support quality assurance activities
