The Advanced Practice Provider I is responsible for assessing patient needs and assisting in the implementation of patient care under the direction of the department Medical Director and department Nurse Director or supervising physician.

Job Specific Responsibilities

Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate quality care for assigned patients.

Performs procedures approved by Medical Director and documents accordingly in patient’s progress notes

Provide coordination of care and education for patient and family support

Develops treatment goals consistent with patient’s condition and appropriately orders post op/ post injury care including but not limited to activities, diet, medications, etc…

Communicates updates to the patient and/or family members regarding plan of care, discharge plans, and decreases of stay.

All other assigned duties related to patient care

Education and Experience

Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) STATUS IN Texas required through the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.

+1 year of related experience

OR

Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Current Physician Assistant license through the Texas Physician Assistant Board of the Texas Medical Board

+1 year of related experience

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations

Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license from the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or current license through the Texas Physician Assistant Board of the Texas Medical Board

Skills and Abilities

Basic medical knowledge with clinical skills and judgement

Effective communicator verbally and in writing; Must speak, read, and write English

Possess analytical skills to evaluate care needs, ability to gather relevant clinical data, perform thorough physical examinations, and assist with clinical patient management.

Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated success dealing with patients, family members, and health care providers in highly stressful situations

Able to work long hours, various shifts as assigned to meet the department’s business needs

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

This position requires close interaction with the medical staff, nursing staff and ancillary areas in order to maintain a quality multi-disciplinary approach to care of the critically ill patient.

Physical Capabilities

Work of medium demand; walking, sitting, and standing most of the time while on duty. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Talking and hearing are essential in meeting with people. Visual acuity and writing skills necessary for factual documentation.

Environmental/Working Conditions

This position is mostly subject to inside environmental conditions, however, may be required to be outdoors occasionally. Occasionally, may require work with chemical hazards (i.e., sprays, mists, vapors and fumes). Hours may be long and irregular.
