Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery in Anchorage, AK
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery unit through Quick2Hire staffing agency. Shift Information
- Night Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:00 to 7:30)
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of 1 year nursing experience
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Proficient in using the Epic charting system (required)
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Certifications required: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, NRP
- IV Therapy and Phlebotomy skills, including:
- Administration of blood and blood products
- Drawing venous blood
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Use of infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
- Labor and Delivery management skills, including:
- Amnioinfusion (required)
- Assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries
- Circulating and recovering for C-section
- Scrubbing for C-section (required)
- Sterile vaginal exams
- Experience across various work settings including antepartum, labor & delivery, LDRP, mother/baby care, and managing 100-200 facility births per month
- Medication administration expertise, including antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin, and terbutaline
- Neonatal care in the delivery room such as APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, radiant warmers/thermoregulation, cord sample collection, and security banding
- Newborn care capabilities including assisting with circumcision and post-op assessment (required), cord care (required), discharge teaching to parents (required), newborn hypoglycemia management (required), phototherapy, and thermoregulation (required)
- Antepartum care and procedures including sterile speculum exams, NST monitoring, reflex and edema assessments, triage of obstetrical patients, sterile vaginal exams, and effective use of external fetal heart monitoring
- Postpartum care management including bladder distension (required), Cesarean section, couplet care, managing multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and vaginal delivery care
- Postpartum procedures such as breastfeeding and lactation support (required), episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, use of manual and electric breast pumps (required), and wound assessment
- Skill in surgical cases and procedures like cervical cerclage and D&C
- Pain management expertise in epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia (required), nitrous oxide (required), and pain assessment and relief
- Expertise in professional topics including isolation precautions, PPE use, and vaccine administration (required)
- Care for patients with complex obstetrical conditions such as multiple gestations (required), pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (required), premature rupture of membranes (required), preterm labor (required), and VBAC trial management (required)
- Fetal monitoring proficiency including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, external and internal fetal monitoring, and use and calibration of intrauterine pressure catheters (IUPC)
- No travel experience required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients.
- Perform and assist with high-risk deliveries and Cesarean sections, including scrubbing and circulating duties.
- Manage neonatal care immediately post-delivery including APGAR scoring, resuscitation, and thermoregulation.
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being using advanced fetal monitoring techniques.
- Administer medications and therapies according to protocols, including complex regimens such as insulin drips and magnesium sulfate.
- Support breastfeeding and provide lactation education and assistance.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality care throughout the maternal and newborn continuum.
- Accurately document all nursing assessments, interventions, and patient responses using the Epic system.
- Maintain sterile techniques during procedures and promote infection control practices.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and families during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and adhere to current clinical guidelines and best practices.
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Minimum of 1 year clinical nursing experience, preferably in labor and delivery
- Required certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate, NRP
- Demonstrated proficiency in IV therapy, neonatal care, and labor and delivery procedures
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage high-acuity cases
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system
Compensation: Hourly rate ranging from $66.00 to $78.00, paid weekly.
