Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery Night Shift in Eureka, CA
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Labor & Delivery (LD RN) team on the night shift. Shift Schedule
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of Registered Nursing experience in Labor and Delivery
- Patient ratio experience: 1:1 to 1:3
- Charting proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system
- Certifications required: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP
- Proficient in IV therapy and phlebotomy:
- Administration of blood and blood products
- Drawing venous blood
- Maintaining central lines (CVC/PICC)
- Starting and maintaining IVs with infusion pumps and drip monitoring
- Labor and Delivery management skills including:
- Amnioinfusion, assisting with high-risk and vaginal deliveries
- Circulating for C-section, forceps/vacuum extraction
- Managing hemorrhage and shock, post C-section recovery
- Sterile vaginal exams
- Experience in antepartum, labor & delivery, LDRP, mother/baby care, including care in facilities with >300 births/month and high risk antepartum
- Medication administration including insulin drips, prostaglandins, anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure meds, magnesium sulfate, Pitocin, and terbutaline
- Neonatal care in delivery room: APGAR scoring, baby nurse duties (“baby catcher”), collection of cord samples, ID/security banding, radiant warmers/thermoregulation
- Antepartum procedures such as assisting with amniocentesis, sterile speculum exams, NST and OCT testing, outpatient triage, and use of external fetal monitoring
- Newborn care experience including circumcision assistance and post-op assessments, metabolic screening, neonatal abstinence syndrome management, and parental teaching
- Postpartum care including baby-friendly protocols, breastfeeding/lactation support, wound and episiotomy care, Foley catheter management, and fundus/lochia/perineum assessment
- Experience with surgical cases including cervical cerclage and D&C procedures
- Care for patients postpartum including cesarean section recovery, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, and pregnancy-induced hypertension
- Pain management skills including epidural anesthesia monitoring, general anesthesia, IV conscious sedation, nitrous oxide, PCA usage, and pain assessment
- Cardiac monitoring with ability to interpret dysrhythmias
- Professional skills including isolation precautions/PPE and vaccine administration
- Fetal monitoring expertise with recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, spiral electrode placement, use of internal and external fetal monitoring, and IUPC placement and calibration
- No travel experience required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care ensuring maternal and neonatal safety
- Manage antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patient needs with a focus on evidence-based practices
- Perform and assist with labor management procedures, surgical cases, and neonatal assessments in accordance with hospital and clinical protocols
- Administer medications and blood products accurately following physician orders and patient safety guidelines
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient charts using Epic electronic medical record system
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care to patients with varying risk profiles including high-risk antepartum cases
- Provide patient and family education related to newborn care, pain management, and postpartum recovery
- Continuously monitor fetal well-being using advanced fetal monitoring techniques and intervene promptly as needed
- Maintain competency in emergency response including cardiac dysrhythmia interpretation and obstetric emergencies
Qualifications
- Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California
- At least 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- Certification in ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, and NRP
- Proficiency in Epic EMR system or similar charting technology
- Strong clinical knowledge and skills in labor, delivery, neonatal care, and postpartum nursing
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Compensation and Benefits
