Shift / Schedule
- Night Shift: 3x12-hour shifts
- Shift hours: 18:00 to 6:30
- Work as the sole Respiratory Therapist (RT) per shift
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of professional respiratory therapy experience
- Previous Charge experience preferred
- Patient ratio experience of 1:5
- Familiarity with any charting system (required)
- Travel experience required
- BLS and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certifications required
- Experience in teaching hospitals, community hospitals, LTAC, Trauma Level I and II preferred
Key Skills
- Adult Critical Care and Emergency Department work settings
- Airway management and suctioning, including:
- Extubation and intubation assist
- Nasal and oral airway placement and suctioning
- Sputum specimen collection
- Tracheostomy care and management
- Nebulizer therapy: hand-held, T-piece, trach collar
- Oxygen therapy methods including bag and mask, ET tube, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), T-piece, trach collar
- Ventilator Management including:
- BiPAP and CPAP administration
- Troubleshooting high pressure alarms
- Weaning patients from mechanical ventilation
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive respiratory care to critically ill and emergency patients
- Manage and monitor ventilators and oxygen therapy devices to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Perform airway management techniques including intubation, extubation, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
- Collect and analyze sputum specimens to assist in diagnostic processes
- Troubleshoot ventilator alarms and adjust settings as necessary
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using various charting systems
- Serve as the sole RT on your shift, taking full responsibility for respiratory care services
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to hospital protocols and safety standards
Qualifications
- Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- BLS certification
- Proven experience in high-acuity settings such as Adult Critical Care and Emergency Departments
- Ability to manage multiple patients effectively with a patient ratio of up to 1:5
- Strong knowledge of airway management, oxygen therapy, nebulization, and ventilator care
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly related to ventilator troubleshooting and weaning
- Effective communication skills to educate patients and collaborate with healthcare teams
- Flexibility to travel and adapt to varied clinical environments as required
