Join Our Team as a Surgical Services Professional in Sterile Processing – Spokane, WA

We are actively seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Surgical Services professional to join our Sterile Processing department. Shift & Schedule

  • Day Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5 days x 8 hours)

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Sterile Processing within an Acute Hospital Operating Room (OR) setting (required)
  • At least 2 years of travel experience in sterile processing (required)
  • Proficient charting skills with Epic system (required)
  • Certifications required: CBSPD, HSPA OR CBSPD, IAHCSMM/HSPA
  • Expertise in Aseptic Technique for preparation and handling of surgical instruments
  • Experience managing loaner consignment trays and loaner trays, organizing trays, placing instruments correctly, proper labeling, and selecting appropriate wrapping materials
  • Knowledge and practice of sterilization wrapping procedures
  • Competence in decontamination and disinfection processes, including use of Automated Endoscope Reprocessors (AER), chemical agents, manual cleaning, ultrasonic cleaners, and washers/sterilizers
  • Facility with cleaning specialized equipment including crash carts, IV pumps, PCA pumps (required)
  • Understanding of High-Level Disinfection (HLD) procedures and proper labeling protocols
  • Proficient in sterilization monitoring including biological and chemical indicators, steam sterilization testing, Steris, and Sterrad systems
  • Experience with flexible endoscope reprocessing for a broad range of scopes such as bronchoscopes, colonoscopes, cystoscopes, EGD scopes, EBUS, EUS, enteroscopes, ERCP scopes, fiber optics, flex sigmoidoscopes, and uteroscopes
  • Handling of specialty equipment related to cardiac, dental (required), ear/nose/throat, general, laparoscopic, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, orthopedics including total joints, plastics, robotics, transplant, trauma, urology, and vascular instruments
  • Familiarity with professional equipment documentation and Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM)
  • Experienced in scope/probe reprocessing and sets/trays assembly

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, and properly wrap surgical instruments and trays following strict aseptic technique and sterilization protocols
  • Perform decontamination, cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of surgical instruments and specialized equipment using manual and automated methodologies
  • Process flexible endoscopes and specialty equipment according to manufacturer and hospital guidelines
  • Use charting systems (Epic) to document processing activities and maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles and instrument usage
  • Monitor and test sterilization processes utilizing biological and chemical indicators to ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Organize and manage loaner trays and consignment instruments effectively to support surgical procedures
  • Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure all instrumentation is sterile, functional, and available for daily OR needs
  • Maintain high standards of infection control, safety, and equipment maintenance in accordance with regulatory guidelines
  • Travel as required to support assignments in various acute hospital settings, ensuring consistent quality in sterile processing practices

Qualifications

  • Certified by CBSPD, HSPA OR CBSPD, IAHCSMM/HSPA (required)
  • Minimum 2 years sterile processing experience in an acute hospital OR environment
  • At least 2 years of travel experience in sterile processing roles
  • Proficient in use of Epic charting system
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with decontamination, sterilization, and reprocessing of surgical instruments and endoscopes
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Detail-oriented and committed to patient safety and compliance standards
