Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR RN) – Lubbock, TX

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse with a strong surgical background to join our dynamic team in the Operating Room. Shift & Schedule

  • Day Shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Surgery, specifically with a 1:1 patient ratio
  • Charting experience required using Epic electronic health record system
  • Trauma Level II experience is required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Travel experience required
  • Certifications: ACLS (required), BLS, CNOR (required)
  • Surgical specialties and skills including but not limited to:
    • Vascular: Carotid Endarterectomy, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair) required
    • Gynecology: Anterior/Posterior Repair (Colporrhaphy) required
    • Plastics: Abdominoplasty, Breast augmentation, Free Flap - Microvascular, Mastectomy with TRAM flap reconstruction required
    • Neurology: ALIF, Anterior cervical fusion, Cervical fusions, Craniotomy, Insertion of VP shunt, Kyphoplasty, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion, XLIF
    • Work Settings: Hybrid OR (required), Ambulatory OR, General OR, Trauma
    • Trauma Procedures: Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA) with multiple injuries
    • Podiatry: Ankle fusion required
    • Orthopedic: Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction required, Arthroscopy, Arthrotomy, Carpal tunnel release, Closed and Open reduction of fractures, Laminectomy/discectomy, Total joint replacement
    • General Surgery: Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy partial/total, Whipple (required)
    • Endoscopic Procedures: Bronchoscopy, Colonoscopy, EGD, PEG tube placement/exchange
    • Robotics: Cardiothoracic robotic surgery (required), Neurological, Orthopedic, Otolaryngologic robotic surgeries (required), Colorectal, Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, TORS
    • Equipment/Instrumentation: Cell saver (required), Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords, Hana Table, Steris
    • Urology: Circumcision, Cystectomy, Cystoscopy, Laparoscopic assisted cases, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy, Transurethral resection of the prostate
    • Oral Surgery: Closed reduction facial fractures/wiring (required), Deciduous teeth extraction (required), Repair of fractured jaws, TMJ arthroplasty (required)
    • Emergency Management: Code response, Fire Safety, Latex Allergy, Malignant Hyperthermia
    • Ear/Nose/Throat Procedures: Endoscopic sinus procedures (required), Laryngectomy (required), Radical neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy (required), Tracheostomy
    • Ophthalmology: Eye trauma (required)
    • Bariatrics: Gastric bypass, Gastric sleeve, Lap band, Laparoscopic assisted cases
    • Transplant: Kidney and Organ donation (required)
  • Clinical skills including administration of blood and blood products, cardiac monitoring, infection control, laser and radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol time-outs, urinary catheterization, and wound management

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert perioperative nursing care during complex surgical procedures within various specialties including trauma, robotics, vascular, plastics, neurology, orthopedics, and transplant
  • Perform accurate and timely documentation using the Epic system ensuring patient safety and compliance with regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary surgical teams to maintain optimal patient care and safety during all phases of surgery
  • Administer blood and blood products safely and effectively, monitor cardiac activity, and manage emergency responses including malignant hyperthermia protocols
  • Ensure consistent adherence to infection control, radiation, and laser safety practices within the OR environment
  • Lead time-out procedures to verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure prior to incision in compliance with Universal Protocol
  • Manage surgical equipment including cell saver and electrosurgical units, and assist in hybrid OR setup and procedures
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative patient education and support as needed
  • Adapt to travel assignments as required to meet staffing needs within diverse clinical settings

Qualifications

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license
  • Minimum 2 years surgical nursing experience with a strong preference for experience in a teaching hospital environment
  • Valid ACLS, BLS, and CNOR certifications
  • Proficient in Epic electronic medical record system
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in high-acuity trauma and hybrid OR settings
  • Strong clinical judgment, organizational, and communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate between $59.00 and $70.00 based on experience and certifications
