Shift Information

  • Night Shift: 4x10 Hours
  • Hours: 9:30 PM – 7:30 AM

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience (HARD STOP)
  • Trauma Level I Experience (Required)
  • Trauma Level II Experience (Required)
  • Travel experience (Required) - Seasoned traveler with blood bank experience (HARD STOP)
  • Charting system proficiency: Epic (Required)
  • Certified ACP-BB or Clinical Immunohematology Science certification (Required); ASCP-BB certification preferred
  • Blood Bank Expertise including:
    • ABO/Rh and Antibody Screen & Identification
    • AHG Crossmatch and Antibody Typing (Tube Method)
    • Antigen Typing
    • Blood banking procedures and component modification
    • Cold Agglutinins, Cord Blood Evaluation
    • Crossmatch - Immediate Spin/IgG, Electronic Crossmatch
    • Direct and Indirect Coombs Testing (DAT)
    • Rhogam Screening
    • Thawing and Cooling of Blood Products
    • Transfusion Reaction Workup and Patient Identification Process
  • Specimen Processing and Handling, including accessioning, pipetting, specimen collection, transport, receipt, and reporting test results
  • Professional knowledge of blood specimen storage, hazardous materials handling, MSDS, labeling, disposal, and quality assurance
  • Transmission-based precautions adherence
  • Hematology/Coagulation skills, including Fetal Hemoglobin testing (Required)
  • Experience in hospital clinical laboratories and transplant/blood donor centers (Required)
  • Proficiency with Immucor Automation and Blood Bank Software (Required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform blood bank testing including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening, crossmatching, and component modification
  • Process and handle specimens accurately, ensuring proper accessioning, storage, and transport within the clinical laboratory setting
  • Conduct hematology and coagulation tests, including specialized assays such as fetal hemoglobin
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols for hazardous materials and maintain compliance with MSDS guidelines
  • Utilize Epic charting system to accurately document and report patient laboratory results
  • Operate Immucor Automation and blood bank software to enhance testing efficiency and accuracy
  • Investigate and manage transfusion reactions with meticulous attention to detail
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care and maintain laboratory accreditation standards
  • Maintain ongoing quality assurance and quality control practices within the laboratory

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years relevant clinical laboratory experience with blood bank specialization
  • Certified ACP-BB or Clinical Immunohematology Science certification required; ASCP-BB highly preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in Trauma Level I and II clinical settings
  • Previous travel assignment experience with proven track record in blood banking essential
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with Epic and specialized blood bank software such as Immucor Automation
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage complex laboratory procedures
  • Effective communication skills for collaboration in fast-paced healthcare environments
