Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR RN) in Hobbs, NM

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our dynamic OR team in Hobbs, NM. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned travel nurse who thrives in fast-paced surgical environments and is passionate about delivering top-notch patient care. You will play a critical role in supporting various surgical specialties, contributing to excellent patient outcomes while working with an experienced healthcare team. Shift & Schedule

  • Days, Monday through Friday
  • 5 shifts per week, 8 hours per shift
  • Shift hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
  • Proficient in Epic electronic charting system (required)
  • Travel nursing experience is mandatory – THIS IS A HARDSTOP
  • Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and PALS
  • Comprehensive perioperative skills, including but not limited to:
    • Gynecology procedures: abdominal/vaginal hysterectomy, anterior/posterior repair (colporrhaphy), bilateral tubal ligation, dilation & curettage, laparoscopic-assisted gynecological procedures, vulvectomy
    • Orthopedic surgeries: anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, arthroscopy, carpal tunnel release, closed and open reduction of fractures, total joint replacement
    • General surgery: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical), laparoscopic-assisted procedures
    • Pediatric general and orthopedic surgeries
    • Podiatric surgery: bunionectomy, hallux valgus arthroplasty/arthrodesis, metatarsal surgery
    • Trauma care including amputations, gunshot/stab wounds, multiple injury motor vehicle accidents (MVA)
    • Emergency management: code response, fire safety, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia preparedness
    • Endoscopic procedures: colonoscopy, EGD
    • Urology: cystoscopy
  • Professional skills:
    • Administration of blood and blood products
    • Cardiac monitoring and conscious sedation monitoring
    • Infection control and radiation safety
    • Specimen handling and labeling
    • Starting peripheral IVs and urinary bladder catheterization
    • Wound management
    • Universal Protocol compliance including time-out procedure
  • Experience functioning in diverse work settings such as ambulatory OR, general OR, and trauma units
  • Familiarity with equipment and instrumentation including electrosurgical units, Hana Table, and Steris systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgery in the OR in compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and safety standards
  • Assist the surgical team by preparing the operating room, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
  • Perform preoperative assessments, monitor patients’ vital signs, and ensure appropriate anesthesia care monitoring during surgery
  • Implement infection control and radiation safety measures throughout all perioperative phases
  • Administer blood products and manage patient documentation accurately in the Epic charting system
  • Respond effectively to emergencies such as codes and malignant hyperthermia
  • Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure quality patient outcomes
  • Maintain compliance with universal protocols including surgical site verification and time-out procedures
  • Manage specimen handling and labeling per established standards
  • Provide postoperative nursing care including wound management and patient education
  • Adhere to travel nurse responsibilities and adaptability requirements, demonstrating flexibility across assignments

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • At least 1 year of perioperative nursing experience, preferably within a surgical OR environment
  • Valid ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
  • Experienced travel nurse with a strong track record in diverse clinical settings
  • Proficient with Epic electronic health record system
  • Solid understanding of complex surgical procedures across multiple specialties outlined above
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in high-acuity environments
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care standards
