Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery (Night Shift)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Labor & Delivery team in Eureka, CA. Shift Schedule

  • Night Shift: 3 x 12-hour shifts (18:00 – 06:30)

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in Labor & Delivery
  • Patient ratio experience: 1:1 to 1:3
  • Proficient with Epic charting system
  • Certifications required: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy skills including:
    • Administration of blood and blood products
    • Drawing venous blood
    • Maintaining central lines (CVC/PICC)
    • Starting and maintaining IVs, infusion pumps, drips & monitoring
  • Labor and Delivery management expertise including:
    • Amnioinfusion and assisting with high risk and vaginal deliveries
    • Circulating for C-section
    • Performing forceps/vacuum extraction
    • Managing hemorrhage and shock situations
    • Performing sterile vaginal exams
    • Recovery care for C-Section patients
  • Experience in antepartum, labor & delivery, LDRP, high-risk antepartum, and mother/baby care with a facility births volume >300/month
  • Medication administration including:
    • Anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications
    • Insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, pitocin (oxytocin), prostaglandins, terbutaline
  • Neonatal care knowledge in delivery room:
    • APGAR scoring, cord sample collection, baby nurse (“baby catcher”)
    • Baby security banding and radiant warmer thermoregulation
  • Antepartum care including assisting with amniocentesis, sterile speculum exams, NST, OCT, reflex checks, edema and clonus assessment, sterile vaginal exams, triage of obstetrical patients, and use of external fetal heart monitoring
  • Newborn care duties including assisting with circumcision, car seat education, cord care, parent discharge teaching, metabolic screening, neonatal abstinence syndrome management, newborn assessment and thermoregulation
  • Postpartum care including baby-friendly protocols, breastfeeding support, episiotomy care, Foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, wound assessment
  • Surgical case experience with cervical cerclage and D&C procedures
  • Postpartum care of patients with cesarean sections, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, vaginal delivery
  • Pain management skills with epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, IV conscious sedation, nitrous oxide, PCA use, and comprehensive pain assessment
  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency care with the ability to interpret dysrhythmias
  • Professional skills including isolation precautions, PPE use, and vaccine administration
  • Fetal monitoring proficiency including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, spiral electrode placement, use of external and internal fetal monitoring, and intrauterine pressure catheter placement and calibration

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients
  • Perform accurate fetal monitoring and interpret abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
  • Administer medications and manage IV therapies safely and effectively
  • Assist in labor management, deliveries (including high risk and surgical cases), and neonatal assessments
  • Support mothers in breastfeeding and newborn care education
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Maintain meticulous documentation using the Epic charting system
  • Respond effectively to obstetrical emergencies, including hemorrhage and shock management
  • Follow hospital policies regarding infection control, isolation precautions, and patient safety

Qualifications

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Completion of all required certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, NRP
  • Minimum one year Labor & Delivery nursing experience with similar patient ratios
  • Strong clinical skills in maternal and neonatal nursing care
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work the designated night shift schedule reliably
