Schedule & Shift Details
- Day Shift: Three 12-hour shifts per week
- Shift Hours: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
Key Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
- Patient ratio experience of 1:1 in a surgical setting
- Proficiency using Epic charting system (required)
- Current ACLS and CNOR certifications (BLS certification also required)
- Expertise in scrub nursing across the following surgical specialties (all required):
- Vascular surgeries including abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and arteriovenous fistula repair
- Gynecological procedures such as abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies, C-sections, and therapeutic abortions
- Oral surgeries including adult dentistry and TMJ arthroplasty
- Neurological surgeries including craniotomies and spinal fusions
- Trauma surgery including amputations and burns
- Orthopedic and pediatric orthopedic surgeries including ACL reconstruction and arthroscopy
- General and pediatric general surgeries (appendectomies, cholecystectomies, laparoscopic procedures, etc.)
- Ophthalmology surgeries including cataract extraction and glaucoma surgeries
- Urology and pediatric urology surgeries
- Pediatric gynecology and pediatric neurology surgeries
- Robotic-assisted surgeries including Da Vinci Xi and Mazor robotic systems
- ENT and pediatric ENT surgeries, including radical neck dissection and tonsillectomies
- Plastic surgeries including free flap microvascular and mastectomy with reconstruction
- Bariatric surgical procedures
- Transplant surgeries including kidney and liver
- Thoracic surgeries including lobectomy and VATS procedures
- Strong professional knowledge in:
- Administration of blood and blood products
- Cardiac and conscious sedation monitoring
- Infection, laser, and radiation safety protocols
- Specimen handling and labeling
- Peripheral IV insertion and urinary catheterization
- Universal Protocol (time-out) adherence
- Wound management
- Emergency management including code responses and malignant hyperthermia preparedness
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert perioperative nursing care in the Operating Room in a 1:1 patient ratio setting.
- Ensure meticulous scrub nursing support across a broad spectrum of surgical specialties as required.
- Maintain compliance with infection control, safety standards, and facility policies to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Utilize the Epic charting system proficiently for accurate and timely documentation of patient care and surgical procedures.
- Collaborate closely with the surgical team, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate seamless surgical interventions.
- Participate actively in universal protocol time-outs and safety checks before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Monitor and manage cardiac and conscious sedation parameters within the perioperative environment.
- Administer blood and blood products according to established guidelines and physician orders.
- Assist in emergency management responses and uphold fire and latex allergy safety protocols.
- Continuously update professional knowledge and skills to maintain competency in specialty surgical procedures and technologies.
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Alaska.
- Minimum of 2 years’ RN experience in operating room or similar surgical environment.
- Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and CNOR credentials are mandatory.
- Demonstrated expertise in scrub nursing across various surgical subspecialties listed above.
- Proficient in using electronic medical record systems, specifically Epic.
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team environment.
