Shift & Schedule
- Night Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Requirements and Skills
- Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Proficient in Epic charting system (required)
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Certifications required: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, NRP
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills, including administration of blood/blood products, drawing venous blood, starting and maintaining IVs, and use of infusion pumps/drips/IV monitoring
- Labor and Delivery management skills including amnioinfusion, assisting with high risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating, scrub, and recovery for cesarean sections; sterile vaginal exams
- Experience in antepartum, labor & delivery, high-risk antepartum, mother/baby settings
- Medication administration experience with antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin, and terbutaline
- Neonatal care expertise in delivery room procedures: APGAR scoring, “baby catcher,” cord sample collection, ID/security banding, neonatal resuscitation, and thermoregulation
- Newborn care including assisting with circumcision, cord care, discharge teaching, newborn assessment, hypoglycemia management, and thermoregulation
- Antepartum care skills including performing sterile speculum exams, NSTs, reflex checks, triage of obstetrical patients, and use of external fetal monitoring
- Postpartum care including bladder distension management, cesarean sections, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and vaginal delivery care
- Postpartum procedures such as breastfeeding support/lactation, episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, use of electric/manual breast pumps, wound assessment/care
- Familiarity with surgical cases including cervical cerclage and D&C procedures
- Pain management skills with epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and pain assessment/management
- Knowledge of professional healthcare protocols including isolation precautions/PPE and vaccine administration
- Ability to care for patients with multiple gestation, preeclampsia/eclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, and VBAC management
- Proficiency in fetal monitoring including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and utilization of external/internal fetal monitoring and IUPC placement and calibration
- Travel is not required for this position
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to women during antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum periods
- Manage high-risk and normal laboring patients including those undergoing cesarean deliveries and VBAC trials
- Perform fetal monitoring and interpret findings to ensure fetal well-being
- Administer medications and therapies according to established protocols
- Assist in delivery room neonatal care including immediate newborn assessments and resuscitation when necessary
- Support new mothers with breastfeeding and newborn care education
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide optimal patient care and maintain patient safety
- Maintain accurate documentation using the Epic electronic medical record system
- Adhere to all infection control and safety standards
- Perform charge nurse duties as needed to support unit operations and staff coordination
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Certification in ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced/Intermediate preferred
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to function independently under pressure
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and teamwork
- Proficient in Epic or similar electronic health record systems
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly rate: $66.00 - $78.00
