We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team. Shift & Schedule
- Night Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience
- Proficient use of Epic charting system (Required)
- Previous charge nurse experience (Preferred)
- Experience in a teaching hospital setting (Preferred)
- Certifications required: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, AWHONN Intermediate, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- IV Therapy and Phlebotomy Skills:
- Administration of blood and blood products
- Drawing venous blood samples
- Starting and maintaining IV lines
- Use of infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
- Labor and Delivery Management:
- Amnioinfusion (Required)
- Assisting with high-risk deliveries and vaginal deliveries
- Circulate and recover for C-sections
- Scrub for C-section procedures (Required)
- Sterile vaginal exams
- Work Settings:
- Antepartum care, including high-risk antepartum
- Labor & Delivery and Mother/Baby units
- Facility births between 100-200 per month
- Medication & Administration proficiency, including:
- Antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy
- Pitocin (oxytocin), terbutaline
- Neonatal Care in Delivery Room:
- Performing APGAR scoring
- Baby nurse duties (“Baby Catcher”)
- Collecting cord samples and ID/security banding
- Neonatal resuscitation and thermoregulation using radiant warmers
- Newborn Care:
- Assisting with circumcision and post-op site assessment (Required)
- Cord care (Required)
- Discharge teaching to parents (Required)
- Assessment and management of newborn hypoglycemia and thermoregulation (Required)
- Antepartum Care and Procedures:
- Assisting with sterile speculum exams, NST monitoring
- Reflex and edema assessments
- Sterile vaginal exams and obstetrical triage
- Use of external fetal heart monitoring (EFM)
- Postpartum Care and Procedures:
- Bladder distension management (Required)
- Care following cesarean sections and vaginal deliveries
- Couplet care, breastfeeding/lactation support (Required)
- Episiotomy/incisional care and Foley catheter management
- Fundus, lochia, perineum care
- Use of electric/manual breast pumps (Required)
- Wound assessment and care
- Surgical Procedures including cervical cerclage and D & C support
- Pain Management skills including epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia (Required), nitrous oxide (Required), and comprehensive pain assessment
- Adherence to professional standards such as isolation precautions, PPE, and vaccine administration (Required)
- Competency in care of patients with multiple gestation (Required), pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (Required), premature rupture of membranes (Required), preterm labor (Required), and VBAC management (Required)
- Fetal Monitoring expertise:
- Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Use of external and internal fetal monitoring, including IUPC placement and calibration
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to women and newborns in the labor and delivery setting
- Coordinate and assist in high-risk and routine deliveries, including surgical and vaginal births
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation within Epic electronic medical records
- Administer medications and therapies safely in accordance with established protocols
- Perform neonatal assessments and interventions immediately following delivery
- Monitor maternal and fetal wellbeing using advanced fetal monitoring technology
- Support mothers with breastfeeding, lactation, and postpartum recovery
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans
- Maintain sterile technique during all relevant procedures and promote infection control standards
- Respond rapidly to obstetric emergencies with skilled nursing interventions
- Educate patients and families on newborn care, postpartum health, and discharge instructions
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Alaska
- Certifications in ACLS, AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate, and NRP required
- Minimum of one year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health records
- Strong critical thinking and communication skills
- Ability to work night shifts within a fast-paced clinical environment
- Demonstrated commitment to quality patient care and teamwork
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Wage: $66.00 - $78.00
