Shift & Schedule
- Night Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours per shift
- Shift Hours: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in critical care settings
- Proficient with Epic charting system (required)
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS (required)
- Neurological Skills:
- Management of CVA/Acute Stroke patients
- Care and monitoring of External Ventricular Drains (EVD)
- Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
- Management of Lumbar Drains
- Post Craniotomy and Post Neurosurgery patient care
- Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
- IV Therapy Skills:
- Arterial line management
- Central line care and management
- Medication Administration:
- Continuous IV sedation
- Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Respiratory/Thoracic Care:
- Management of BiPAP/CPAP therapy
- Care for ventilated patients
- Interpretation of Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
- Suctioning via Endotracheal Tube (ETT) and Nasotracheal (NT)
- Knowledge and adherence to Isolation Precautions and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols
- Additional Surgical and Neuro nursing skills relevant to ICU care
- No travel experience required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill neurological and cardiac patients in the ICU setting during night shifts
- Use Epic charting system to accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and responses to treatment
- Monitor and manage neurological devices such as EVDs, lumbar drains, and ICP monitors, ensuring patient safety and early detection of complications
- Interpret cardiac rhythms and manage cardiac emergencies promptly, utilizing advanced cardiac life support techniques
- Administer and titrate IV sedation, cardiac and vasoactive medications according to established protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients recovering from neurosurgical procedures
- Maintain ventilator care, manage respiratory support devices, and perform necessary suctioning interventions to ensure airway clearance and adequate oxygenation
- Adhere strictly to isolation and infection control policies to prevent the spread of infection within the ICU
- Continuously assess patient status and communicate critical findings to physicians and healthcare team members
- Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain certifications and stay current with best practices in critical care nursing
Qualifications
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience with strong neurological and cardiac patient care skills
- Active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Demonstrated proficiency with Epic electronic health records system
- Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively during night shifts with a focus on patient safety and quality care
