Position Title: Emergency Medical Technician (Basic EMT),
Location: Pine Ridge, SD 57770
Duration: 13-week base period with eighteen (18) 13-week option periods (Total potential duration up to 57 months).
Work Schedule: 12-hour shifts (staggered days, nights, or mid-day starts) typically followed by 12 hours of on-call status to support 24/7 coverage.
Pay rate: $30/hr.-$33/hr.
Place of Performance: Primary services will be conducted at the following locations within the Pine Ridge Service Unit:
Pine Ridge Hospital: 607 Indian Health Service Rd, Pine Ridge, SD 57770
Kyle Health Center: 1000 Health Center Rd, Kyle, SD 57752
Wanblee Health Center: 210 1st Street, Wanblee, SD 57577
LaCreek Clinic: 119 S. 1st Ave., Martin, SD 57551
Performance also includes emergency medical and transfer services across the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and inter-facility transfers throughout South Dakota and neighboring states
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Provide professional pre-hospital emergency medical services and inter-facility transfer care at the South Dakota EMT license level.
Respond to accidents and emergencies, perform scene safety assessments, and conduct preliminary patient examinations to select appropriate treatment protocols.
Prioritize treatments for patients with multiple medical issues and utilize a variety of emergency medical techniques and equipment during transport.
Operate emergency and non-emergency transport vehicles safely, selecting the most efficient routes while adhering to all traffic ordinances and protocols.
Perform daily safety and maintenance inspections of vehicles and medical equipment; restock linens and supplies and decontaminate vehicles after each trip.
Ensure 100% accuracy in medical documentation, meeting all Client, Joint Commission, and CMS standards for timeliness, legibility, and content.
Provide diagnostic support duties such as answering calls, patient registration, documenting vital signs, and transporting laboratory specimens.
Work harmoniously within health care teams and maintain professional demeanor with patients, families, and staff.
To be considered for this position, you should have:
Experience: A minimum of twelve (12) months of clinical experience as a practicing EMT within the last three (3) years.
Licensure: A current, active, and unrestricted South Dakota EMT license (or proof of eligibility to obtain one prior to the start of performance) [59.14].
Certifications: Current national certification as a National Registry EMT or a COMPACT state equivalent, along with current Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification.
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a course of ECP instructions.
Security: Ability to pass an FBI National Criminal History Check (Fingerprint Check) and provide information for background investigations as required by the Indian Health Service.
Health Requirements: Valid state driver's license and documentation of required immunizations, including Hepatitis A/B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, TB test, and a mandatory annual Influenza vaccination.
