About the Role
As a Stepdown Registered Nurse, you'll provide expert nursing care for patients who require ongoing observation and intervention but no longer need intensive care unit (ICU) services. You'll be responsible for monitoring patient conditions, administering medications and treatments, evaluating clinical progress, and responding quickly to changes in patient status.
Success in this role requires strong clinical judgment, exceptional assessment skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced acute care environments.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and assess patients recovering from critical illness, surgery, cardiac events, and complex medical conditions
Perform frequent patient evaluations and identify changes in condition
Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and telemetry data
Administer medications, IV therapies, and physician-ordered treatments
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams to develop and implement care plans
Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and recovery goals
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Support patient safety initiatives and evidence-based nursing practices
Assist with discharge planning and care transitions when appropriate
Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in high-acuity settings
Minimum Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Minimum of 2 years of recent Stepdown, PCU, or Intermediate Care nursing experience
Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced hospital environments
