About This Position
Overview
Intensive Care Unit RNs (ICU RNs) specialize in delivering care to patients in intensive care units of hospitals and healthcare facilities. ICU RNs evaluate the patient's conditions, administer treatment, and provide constant support during recovery. ICU RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Evaluate and order diagnostic tests and administer intravenous fluids and medications
Respond to life-threatening situations using nursing standards and protocols for treatment
Ensure ventilators, monitors, and other types of medical equipment function properly
Requirements
ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS Certifications
Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience and 2 years of RN experience
Proficiency with basic ICU equipment; experience with common ICU cases such as Left Heart Caths, Coronary Interventions, STEMIs, IVUS, IFR/FFR, Temporary Pacemaker Insertion, IABP (not required), and support for ventilated patients
Working knowledge of Respiratory Therapy, patient care technicians, and health unit secretaries preferred
Flexibility in floating to ED or MS if experienced
Ability to work 12-hour night shifts (6:00 pm - 6:30 am)
Ability to work a minimum of 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
On-call availability not specified as required
Experience with advanced ICU equipment and procedures such as GE floor-mounted C-Arm, Volcano System, Change Healthcare Cardiology Hemo System, Getinge IABP
Prior experience with treatment of common conditions listed (pneumonia, vents, post caths, EVAR, surgeries, ETOH/OD, ARDS, DKA, CVA after tPA, AFib RVR, sepsis, renal failure)
Ability to work in a fast-paced ICU setting with multiple complex cases
Familiarity with the hospital’s charting system (Allscripts)
Ability to adapt to flexible scheduling, including weekends and floating assignments
