About the Role
As a Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN), you'll care for adult patients hospitalized for a wide variety of medical conditions, illnesses, injuries, and surgical recoveries. You'll assess patient needs, create and implement care plans, administer treatments, monitor patient responses, and provide education to patients and their families.
This fast-paced nursing specialty is often considered the foundation of acute care nursing and requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple patients with varying levels of acuity.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care for adult medical-surgical patients
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing evaluations
Monitor patient conditions and recognize changes requiring intervention
Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments as prescribed
Manage post-operative recovery and acute medical conditions
Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans
Coordinate care with physicians, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions
Maintain accurate documentation within electronic medical record systems
Ensure compliance with patient safety standards, hospital protocols, and evidence-based nursing practices
Minimum Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Minimum of 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience
Strong assessment, prioritization, and critical thinking skills
Ability to effectively manage multiple patients in a fast-paced environment
