The city, incorporated in February 1990, derives its name from the Seattle–Tacoma International Airport; a portmanteau created by combining the first syllables of "Seattle" and "Tacoma." SeaTac surrounds the airport which is an international gateway to Asia and Alaska. It's strategically situated approximately midway between the cities of Seattle and Tacoma, offering the benefits of a significant metropolitan area while maintaining a distinct suburban feel.
