About This Position

Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) – Detox

Per Diem | 12-Hour Shifts

We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to join our inpatient detoxification nursing team on a per diem basis.The LVN works under the supervision and direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) and primarily serves as the medication nurse, supporting safe medication administration and quality patient care for individuals undergoing medically supervised detoxification.Available Shifts

  • Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

    Per Diem Availability RequirementsPer diem employees must provide:

  • At least 2 days of availability per month
  • At least 2 weekend days of availability per month
  • Availability for at least 2 holidays per year

    Availability does not guarantee scheduling on every available day and scheduling is based on facility needs.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the medication nurse for patients receiving detoxification services
  • Safely prepare and administer scheduled and PRN medications according to provider orders and facility policy
  • Follow all medication administration rights and medication safety procedures
  • Complete accurate and timely medication documentation in the electronic medical record and MAR
  • Monitor patients for medication effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, and changes in condition
  • Report abnormal findings, changes in patient condition, medication concerns, and other clinical issues promptly to the supervising RN
  • Obtain and document vital signs and other clinical information as assigned
  • Assist with monitoring patients experiencing alcohol, opioid, benzodiazepine, and other substance withdrawal
  • Follow established withdrawal-management protocols and communicate assessment findings to the RN
  • Complete appropriate reassessments following PRN medication administration
  • Assist with medication reconciliation, medication storage, medication counts, and other medication-management processes
  • Maintain appropriate controlled-substance documentation and follow medication security procedures
  • Utilize automated medication-dispensing systems as applicable
  • Communicate effectively with RNs and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Provide patient education regarding medications as appropriate within LVN scope
  • Recognize situations requiring RN assessment or intervention and escalate concerns promptly
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, infection-prevention, patient-safety, and facility policies
  • Participate in required trainings, competencies, and continuing education
  • Perform additional LVN duties within scope of practice as assigned

    Minimum Requirements

  • Current and active California LVN license in good standing
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of 1 year of acute care nursing experience
  • Previous experience administering medications in a clinical setting

    Preferred Experience

  • Previous detox, substance-use disorder, behavioral health, or psychiatric nursing experience
  • Experience using Pyxis or another automated medication-dispensing system
  • Experience caring for patients experiencing acute withdrawal

    Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is organized, dependable, comfortable with medication administration, and able to recognize when a patient's condition requires escalation to the RN. We are looking for an LVN who can balance efficiency with compassionate, respectful care for patients during the detoxification process.

    Pay: $30.00 - $31.00 per hour
