About This Position
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Travel ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional critical care services in Alabama. The ideal candidate will possess extensive ICU experience and a strong background in managing complex patient needs within a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in diverse healthcare settings, delivering vital patient care while supporting hospital operations across various units. The Travel ICU RN will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, assessment, and treatment, utilizing advanced clinical skills and comprehensive knowledge of critical care protocols.
Deliver comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), including ventilator management, airway stabilization, and hemodynamic monitoring.
Perform detailed patient assessments, interpret vital signs, and develop individualized care plans aligned with physician directives.
Administer medications and IV infusions accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document patient information meticulously and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, respiratory therapists, and case managers to coordinate patient treatment plans.
Monitor laboratory results, diagnostic evaluations, and imaging studies such as sonography or radiology reports to inform clinical decisions.
Respond promptly to emergency situations, including trauma cases or acute pain episodes, applying advanced life support techniques when necessary.
Maintain proficiency in specialized procedures such as catheterization, suturing, dialysis management, and infection control practices.
Requirements
Valid RN license with current state licensure; prior experience in ICU or critical care settings is essential.
Minimum of 1 recent year in ICU and 2 years' RN experience
Cerner experience required
Travel experience (preferred)
Demonstrated expertise working within Level I or Level II trauma centers or similar high-acuity environments.
Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is preferred.
Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and pharmacology relevant to critical care nursing.
Experience managing patients requiring ventilator support, tube feeding, or invasive procedures such as spinal taps or gastric lavage.
Ability to perform advanced skills including IV insertion, venipuncture, aseptic technique, and specimen collection/processing.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively within diverse healthcare teams and with patients from varied backgrounds.
Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are highly desirable.
