About This Position
Overview
Labor and Delivery RNs (L&D RNs) are responsible for monitoring patients throughout labor and serve as the primary point of contact for family members. L&D RNs monitor the baby’s heart rate and provide immediate care to the newborn. L&D RN job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform knowledge of phlebotomy, basic IV, and central lines
Assess and record maternal vital signs throughout labor and post-partum stages
Administer pain medication and other medicines as ordered
Educate and support new mothers and families on infant care
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
Valid RN (Registered Nurse) license
Certification in BLS, NRP, and AWHONN-Intermediate or Advanced
Minimum of 1 full year experience within the last two years in Labor and Delivery
Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
Proficiency in Epic EMR system
Prior recent experience in a Level 2 Trauma or similar acute care setting
ACLS certification (preferred but not mandatory)
Experience in neonatal, pediatric (NICU/Peds), or MedSurg/ICU units
Clinical skills: vaginal exams, scalp electrodes, C-section circulation, newborn assessments, postpartum hemorrhage control, epidurals, blood draws, APGAR scoring, assisting anesthesiology, IV starts, amnio infusion
Ability to care for babies post-delivery for at least two hours
Knowledge of water birth (not mandatory), experience with spinning babies (preferred)
Ability to float among antepartum, NICU, Peds, MedSurg, and ICU units
Titrating medications such as Magnesium, Pitocin, insulin
Familiarity with Tele/Monitor Techs and support staff
Willingness to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays
