Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse to join our obstetric care team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods, ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and newborn. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills, a compassionate approach, and experience working in dynamic hospital environments. You will play a key role in supporting positive birth experiences while adhering to hospital protocols and standards of care.
Responsibilities
Monitor maternal vital signs, fetal heart rates, and labor progress to assess ongoing needs and respond promptly to any complications.
Administer medications as prescribed, including pain management interventions such as epidurals and other analgesics.
Assist with labor induction, augmentation, and perform neonatal resuscitation procedures when necessary.
Maintain sterile techniques during procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and other invasive interventions.
Educate patients on labor progress, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care practices.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, and support staff to ensure seamless patient care.
Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Prepare delivery rooms for laboring patients ensuring all necessary equipment is available and sterile.
Support families emotionally through labor and delivery processes while providing culturally sensitive care.
Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives aligned with hospital standards such as NCQA standards.
Experience
Valid Registered Nurse (RN) licensure with current state certification.
Minimum of two years of experience in Labor & Delivery nursing within a hospital setting.
Experience working in Level I or Level II trauma centers preferred.
Proficiency with EHR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for documentation.
Knowledge of neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP certification preferred).
Familiarity with sterile techniques including suturing and catheter care.
Prior experience managing high-acuity cases involving acute pain management or emergency interventions.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments requiring critical thinking and rapid decision-making.
Strong understanding of physiology related to pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
