Director of Nursing (DON/DPCS) – Hospice

Destiny Hospice and Palliative Care is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing to join our Hospice team.

We are seeking a Director of Nursing (DON/DPCS) with strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, and a commitment to high-quality, compliant hospice care. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, hands-on leader who can support and develop clinical staff while promoting regulatory compliance, patient safety, and excellent clinical outcomes.

Qualifications

Active and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

Minimum of two years of full-time supervisory or managerial experience in hospice or palliative care within the past five years

Strong knowledge of hospice clinical operations, regulatory requirements, and standards of care

Demonstrated leadership, communication, problem-solving, and team-building skills

Previous experience as a Hospice RN Case Manager preferred

Schedule

Full-Time, Exempt

Office hours: 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Salary

$115,000–$130,000 annually, depending on clinical experience and leadership qualifications.

Your Role as Director of Nursing

The Director of Nursing (DON/DPCS) oversees both office and field clinical practice and is responsible for the quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of hospice clinical services.

Key responsibilities include:

Oversee and/or participate in initial comprehensive and ongoing patient assessments and the delivery of direct and indirect clinical services.

Provide leadership, guidance, and support to Clinical Coordinators, Supervisors, nurses, and other clinical personnel.

Participate in interviewing, evaluating, hiring, performance management, and disciplinary recommendations for clinical staff.

Oversee clinical documentation and medical record practices to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements and Joint Commission standards.

Monitor patient clinical records, clinical statistics, quality indicators, and QAPI activities.

Participate in the organization's Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement program and identify opportunities to improve clinical outcomes and operational performance.

Ensure the safe, effective, and high-quality delivery of hospice services throughout the organization.

Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state laws, licensing and certification requirements, and Joint Commission standards.

Remain current with developments in nursing, hospice care, regulatory requirements, and clinical best practices and communicate relevant changes to staff.

Develop and maintain professional relationships with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, physicians, and community partners within Destiny Hospice's service area.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Administrator.
