Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Mother Baby/Post Partum role requiring 2+ years of L&D or postpartum/GYN experience and a South Dakota or compact RN license.
Details
Mother/Baby unit with 20 beds providing couplet care with rooming-in, supported by an on-site nursery
Level 3 NICU facility accepting high-risk to low-intervention patients across antepartum, OB triage/ED, postpartum, and infant care
Typical postpartum/couplet ratio of 1:3, flexing up to 1:4 with NICU feeder/grower babies as needed
Cares for postpartum patients along with occasional simple post-surgical/GYN cases such as hysterectomy or ovarian cyst
L&D-trained nurses may assist with C-section circulating, recovery care, and cervical checks
Uses Epic EMR
12-hour variable shifts (0630-1830 and 1830-0630), requiring flexibility between day and night shifts throughout the contract
Every other weekend rotation required, though this may be reduced based on staffing needs
No on-call requirements
Floating expected, preferably to L&D, NICU, Peds, or PICU based on facility needs
Holiday coverage required as needed
Requirements
Active RN license (South Dakota or Compact) required
BLS and NRP certifications required
ACLS, inpatient obstetrics certification, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum certification preferred for L&D-trained candidates
STABLE and C-EFM certifications preferred
Minimum 2 years of L&D experience or 2 years of postpartum/GYN experience required
Completion of an approved nursing education program
Experience with couplet care and newborn nursery care required
Level 2 nursery experience preferred, including 24-hour testing, bilirubin management, NAS scoring, late preterm care, and blood sugar monitoring
Skilled in IV starts, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate administration, blood administration, and insulin drip management
Additional Information
Support team includes IBCLC lactation nurses, charge nurse, vascular access team, 24/7 respiratory therapy, OB physician team, anesthesia/CRNA, and scrub techs
A non-patient-load charge RN is available to support couplet or baby care as needed, along with established NICU transfer protocols
Navy blue scrubs required
