The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech)/CNA/MA/LPN is a member of the health care team who works under the general supervision of the Emergency Department registered nurse (ED RN) and utilizes critical thinking skills while organizing and implementing certain aspects of the plan of care.
The ED Tech will have, but is not limited to, the responsibilities detailed below:
Assist with patient flow by checking vital signs, collecting non-invasive specimens, and measuring input and output.
Provide baths, hygiene care, meal assistance, and assistance with ambulation and transfers.
Prepares equipment during basic examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments using aseptic techniques.
Maintains equipment, orders supplies, and cleans and restocks the treatment areas.
Under the direction of the ED RN, the ED Tech initiates peripheral IVs as directed by the physician's order.
Communicates in a timely manner with the patient, family, and health care team and documents care per protocol in the medical record.
Reports changes in the patient's condition to the ED RN and/or ED physician.
Maintains and completes paperwork related to patient care, medical records, patient registration, etc.
Completes additional tasks within their scope of practice under the direction of the ED RN, ED physician, and the ED Director.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant health care experience preferred.
Preferred relevant experience in the ED setting, hospital, or other health care entities, which include Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Licensed Practical Nurse and/or Emergency Medical Technician.
Current BLS certification and/or certification prior to independent patient care.
