Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery

Location: Seattle, WA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 36 Hours per Week
Shift: Night Shift
Shift Length: 12-Hour Shifts
Pay Range: $50.80–$93.51 per hour
Hiring Bonus: Up to $15,000 for eligible external candidates

Position Overview

A leading Seattle hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery to join a high-volume, advanced maternal care team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced L&D nurse to work within a comprehensive women’s health program supporting approximately 550–600 births per month, including high-risk pregnancies, obstetric emergencies, C-sections, early gestational deliveries, and complex maternal and neonatal cases.

Candidates must have at least one full year of professional Labor & Delivery RN experience. Clinical rotations, student nursing experience, and residency programs do not count toward this requirement.

Labor & Delivery Department

This is a large, highly specialized Labor & Delivery operation offering extensive maternal and neonatal services, including:

30 Labor & Delivery beds

9-bed OB Emergency Department

4 dedicated OB operating rooms

Approximately 550–600 births per month

Deliveries beginning at approximately 22–23 weeks gestation

Level IV NICU with 77 beds

Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)

Midwifery

Obstetrics

Family Medicine

Addiction recovery services for pregnant and laboring patients and postpartum couplets

Doula services and Cultural Navigators

24/7 anesthesia, laborist, and neonatology coverage

The primary L&D unit includes an OB Emergency Department, dedicated labor rooms, operating rooms, Charge RN coverage, and an in-house Laborist. Additional capacity supports scheduled C-sections, overflow labor, and occasional antepartum and postpartum patients.

Key Responsibilities

Assess patient needs and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing plans of care.

Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.

Monitor maternal and fetal conditions and respond appropriately to changes in clinical status.

Coordinate patient care with physicians, midwives, anesthesia, neonatology, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care in accordance with professional, regulatory, and hospital standards.

Advocate for patients and families while respecting their dignity, rights, values, beliefs, and cultural practices.

Educate patients and families regarding procedures, treatment plans, labor, delivery, recovery, and ongoing care.

Identify changes in patient condition and communicate concerns appropriately.

Support patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

Maintain all required clinical competencies for the Labor & Delivery environment.

Collaborate with the broader care team to promote positive maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Participate in ongoing professional development and evidence-based nursing practice.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Active Washington State Registered Nurse license upon hire.

BLS certification through the American Heart Association upon hire.

NRP certification through the American Academy of Pediatrics upon hire.

Minimum 1 full year of professional RN experience in Labor & Delivery.

Please note: Clinical rotations, nursing school experience, student work, and residency programs do not satisfy the required one year of Labor & Delivery RN experience.

Preferred Qualifications

National certification within the relevant nursing specialty.

Experience working in a high-volume or high-acuity Labor & Delivery environment.

Experience with obstetric emergencies, C-sections, high-risk pregnancies, or maternal-fetal medicine.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $50.80–$93.51 per hour, with actual compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and other applicable factors.

Hiring Bonus: Up to $15,000 for eligible external candidates who meet all applicable conditions for payment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with at least one full year of hands-on L&D nursing experience outside of a residency or nursing school setting.

They will be comfortable working in a busy, high-acuity hospital environment with significant delivery volume and access to advanced maternal and neonatal services.

Strong clinical judgment, communication skills, teamwork, patient advocacy, and the ability to remain effective in rapidly changing clinical situations are essential.

Pay: $50.80 - $93.51 per hour
