Job Summary
We are seeking experienced and compassionate Registered Nurses (RNs) to join an Inpatient Mixed Acuity Unit in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Mixed Acuity unit is designed to care for patients across a broad range of illness severity, from general and intermediate-level patients to those requiring critical care. Patients remain in the same room throughout their hospitalization, while monitoring, equipment, and nursing care are adjusted according to their clinical needs.
The unit primarily cares for patients with cardiac, thoracic, and vascular diagnoses and procedures, along with related conditions such as diabetes, renal disease, and pulmonary disease.
This is an excellent opportunity for nurses interested in developing their skills in cardiology, PCU, progressive care, and critical care nursing.
Key Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
Implement and evaluate nursing interventions based on patient needs.
Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and nursing standards.
Monitor patients and recognize changes in clinical condition.
Provide care to patients with cardiac, thoracic, vascular, and other complex medical conditions.
Utilize cardiac, telemetry, and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
Monitor EKG, invasive/non-invasive pressures, and cardiac output when applicable.
Provide care across general, intermediate, and critical-care acuity levels.
Direct, monitor, and evaluate care delegated to non-licensed personnel.
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.
Promote patient safety and quality outcomes.
Educate and support patients and their families.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects.
Follow hospital policies, procedures, and applicable nursing standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Training & Career Development
RNs new to the unit receive education, training, and mentoring to help them successfully care for general and intermediate-acuity patients.
The position also provides an opportunity to progress toward critical care nursing while remaining on the same unit.
Required Qualifications Education
Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Experience
Minimum 1 year of adult acute-care nursing experience.
Cardiology/cardiovascular nursing experience preferred.
Licensure
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
RN license from a state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) may also be accepted.
Required Certifications
BLS required within 30 days of employment for all RNs.
ACLS required within 1 year of employment for RNs working or cross-trained in:
PCU
Emergency Department
Cath Lab
Outpatient Services
Phase II Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation
PALS or ENPC required within 1 year of employment for RNs whose home department is the Emergency Department.
Preferred Qualifications
1+ year of adult acute-care experience.
Cardiology or cardiovascular nursing experience.
PCU/progressive care experience.
Telemetry experience.
Hemodynamic monitoring experience.
Cardiac patient-care experience.
Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Interest in advancing toward critical care nursing.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of adult acute-care experience, preferably with experience in cardiology, cardiovascular nursing, PCU, telemetry, or progressive care.
The successful candidate should have strong clinical judgment, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to care for patients with changing levels of acuity while working effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
