About the Job
As a Travel Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PICU RN), you'll provide the highest level of nursing care to critically ill, injured, and post-surgical pediatric patients requiring continuous monitoring and advanced medical interventions.
PICU nurses play a vital role in caring for children with complex medical conditions, traumatic injuries, respiratory failure, cardiac conditions, neurological disorders, infections, and post-operative recovery needs. You'll continuously monitor breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygenation, and neurological status while implementing specialized treatment plans designed to improve patient outcomes.
Success in this role requires advanced pediatric critical care knowledge, exceptional clinical judgment, strong assessment skills, and a compassionate bedside manner. You'll collaborate closely with pediatric intensivists, respiratory therapists, surgeons, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide comprehensive family-centered care during some of the most challenging moments in a child's healthcare journey.

What You'll Do
Provide advanced critical care nursing for infants, children, and adolescents in the PICU
Perform comprehensive assessments and ongoing evaluations of critically ill pediatric patients
Monitor respiratory status, cardiac rhythms, blood pressure, oxygenation, and neurological function
Administer medications, blood products, IV therapies, and specialized pediatric treatments
Manage ventilators, airway support systems, and critical care equipment
Recognize and respond rapidly to changes in patient condition
Participate in emergency interventions, trauma protocols, and pediatric critical care procedures
Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
Utilize Epic, Cerner, and other EMR systems to document patient care accurately
Educate and support families regarding treatment plans, procedures, and recovery expectations
Maintain compliance with infection prevention standards, patient safety protocols, and evidence-based pediatric practices
Minimum Qualifications
2+ years of recent PICU or Pediatric Critical Care nursing experience required
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Current BLS certification
Current PALS certification
ACLS certification as required by facility
Strong pediatric assessment and critical care nursing skills
Experience caring for high-acuity pediatric patients
Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare environments
Excellent communication, critical-thinking, and family-centered care abilities
