About This Position
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Medsurg Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care across diverse medical-surgical settings in Wichita, Kansas. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background, including experience with complex medical conditions, advanced procedures, and a variety of EMR/EHR systems. The Travel Medsurg RN will be responsible for assessing patient needs, implementing care plans, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal health outcomes.
Duties
Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and detailed medical histories to inform individualized care plans.
Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, suturing, and medication management in compliance with hospital protocols.
Utilize advanced EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for documentation, order entry, and patient record management.
Perform specialized procedures including catheterization, tube feeding management, ventilator care, and aseptic techniques to maintain patient safety.
Coordinate diagnostic evaluations such as CT scans and laboratory tests; interpret results to guide clinical decision-making.
Manage acute pain and chronic conditions through evidence-based interventions; participate in trauma medicine and critical care response when necessary.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across specialties such as cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine, geriatrics, behavioral health, and pediatrics.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical documentation to support quality assurance and legal standards.
Provide patient education on health coaching topics including medication administration, discharge planning, nutrition, and disease management.
Support infection control protocols and participate in quality improvement initiatives aligned with NCQA standards.
Requirements
Certification in RN (Registered Nurse)
A minimum of 1 recent year in a Medical Surgical (Med Surg) unit and 2 years RN experience required
Must possess ACLS certification
Must possess BLS certification
Must have Basic Dys (assumed to be basic dysrhythmia interpretation skills)
Good attitude
Team-oriented mindset
Experience with procedures performed on the unit, including basic Med Surg procedures
Additional certifications related to certifications required
Ability to adhere to hospital-specific policies and guidelines
Experience in high-quality documentation, especially related to central lines, Foley catheters, Cdiff, and other HAIs
Familiarity with equipment such as EKG, bladder scanner, sit-to-stand, Hoyer lift, hover mat, Alaris pumps, Pyxis system
Experience in a high-acuity, safety-focused environment with focus on patient satisfaction (e.g., Nurse Explain, Nurse Courtesy, and Respect initiatives)
Ability to work at least every 3rd weekend and three shifts per week
Capacity to float to similar units such as Ortho, Neuro, CCU, CDU, SSU, Obstetrics, or Rehabilitative units
Demonstrated teamwork, supportiveness, and engagement with unit goals
Knowledge of hospital-specific awards, recognition, and new technology initiatives aimed at enhancing care delivery
