About This Position
Job Summary:
THE LICENSED PRACTICAL WILL PERFORM NURSING ACTS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NURSE PRACTICE ACT TO CARE FOR RESIDENTS. HE OR SHE MAY WORK UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE NURSE MANAGER ON DUTY.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Administers medications or starts intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on residents’ charts
Observes residents, charts and reports changes in conditions such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment and takes necessary actions
Answers residents’ calls and determines how to assist them
Measures and records residents’ vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration
Provides basic resident care or treatments such as dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, or performing catheterizations
Works as part of a health care team to assess patient needs, plans and modifies care, and implements interventions
Evaluates nursing intervention outcomes, conferring with other health care team members
Assembles and uses equipment such as catheters, tracheotomy tubes, or oxygen suppliers
Records food and fluid intake and output
Fulfills additional duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
General knowledge of nursing and health care terminology
Excellent resident care skills
Ability to maintains confidentiality of all resident, employee and facility information
Knowledge of and the ability to perform nursing procedures for which the vocational nursing course has provided the necessary degree of skill and judgment
Demonstrates skill in conflict resolution
Ability to record observations completely, accurately, legibly, and concisely
Education and Experience:
Postsecondary certificate from vocational school or Associate’s degree in nursing required
Current state licensure required
Experience with or interest in working in the skilled nursing industry
Current Basic Life Support Certification beneficial
