About the Job

As a Travel Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PICU RN), you'll provide the highest level of nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients requiring continuous monitoring, advanced interventions, and intensive treatment. PICU nurses care for infants, children, and adolescents experiencing complex medical conditions, traumatic injuries, respiratory failure, cardiac complications, post-operative recovery, and other critical illnesses.

PICU RNs are responsible for closely monitoring breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, neurological status, and other critical physiologic indicators while managing complex treatment plans and advanced life-support therapies. Your clinical expertise, critical-thinking skills, and compassionate bedside manner help ensure exceptional outcomes during some of the most challenging moments in a child's healthcare journey.

You'll collaborate with pediatric intensivists, pediatric specialists, respiratory therapists, surgeons, pharmacists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver comprehensive, family-centered critical care.

What You'll Do

Provide advanced nursing care for critically ill infants, children, and adolescents in the PICU

Perform comprehensive pediatric assessments and ongoing evaluations

Continuously monitor heart rate, respiratory status, blood pressure, neurological function, and other critical indicators

Administer medications, blood products, IV therapies, and specialized pediatric treatments

Manage ventilators, airway support systems, and critical care equipment

Respond to medical emergencies and rapidly changing patient conditions

Assist with invasive procedures, bedside interventions, and post-operative care

Collaborate with pediatric intensivists, specialists, respiratory therapists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams

Utilize Epic, Cerner, and other EMR systems to accurately document patient care

Educate and support families regarding treatment plans, procedures, recovery expectations, and discharge planning

Maintain compliance with pediatric safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and hospital quality initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

2+ years of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) or Pediatric Critical Care nursing experience required

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license

Current BLS certification

Current PALS certification

ACLS certification as required by facility

Strong pediatric assessment, critical care, and clinical decision-making skills

Experience with ventilator management, advanced monitoring, and pediatric critical care protocols

Ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-acuity healthcare environments

Excellent communication and family-centered care skills
