Responsibilities
Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility using proper manual handling and safe lifting practices.
Take and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates, ensuring precise medical documentation.
Support patient transfer methods utilizing equipment like Hoyer lifts and ensure safe patient handling at all times.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and ensure all medical records are properly documented within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner.
Observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly, especially in critical care environments such as ICU or trauma centers.
Assist with medication administration under supervision, following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
Provide specialized care for patients with complex needs including dementia care, Alzheimer's care, behavioral health challenges, or those requiring hospice or palliative care.
Support patients across diverse settings including long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and home & community care environments.
Use patient transfer methods effectively to ensure safety during movement or repositioning of patients with mobility aids like Hoyer lifts or manual transfer techniques.
Qualifications
Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program.
Experience working with geriatric patients or in senior care environments preferred; familiarity with long-term care facility operations is highly valued.
Knowledge of medical terminology and basic anatomy to understand patient needs clearly.
Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation and communication.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and adhere to safe lifting practices during patient transfers or manual handling tasks.
Strong caregiving skills complemented by excellent communication abilities to collaborate effectively with healthcare teams and family members.
Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities is a plus; familiarity with pediatric or behavioral health settings is advantageous.
Knowledge of infection control procedures including aseptic technique and infectious disease care protocols.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required; additional certifications like Phlebotomy or medication administration are beneficial but not mandatory.
