About This Position

NPI Surgery Center is seeking a PRN Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who is friendly, cooperative, team-focused, organized, and detail-oriented. Our facility is a fast-paced, friendly, and exciting environment where we believe in and value our employees. Previous pre-operative or ambulatory surgery experience preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

The LPN is responsible for providing safe, compassionate, and efficient pre-operative nursing care to patients preparing for surgery. The LPN assists with patient admission, pre-operative assessment and preparation, education, documentation, and coordination of care in accordance with established Federal and State regulations, accreditation standards, and Center policies and procedures.

The LPN participates in direct patient care and helps maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment. The LPN works collaboratively with the Clinical Director, registered nurses, providers, anesthesia staff, and other members of the surgical team.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Responsible for patient admission and pre-operative care, including preparation for surgery and consideration of the patient's physical, educational, psychosocial, and other individual needs.
  • Provides pre-operative education to patients and families/escorts as directed.
  • Obtains and documents patient information and vital signs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Performs nursing care within the scope of LPN practice, established protocols, policies, procedures, and applicable provider orders.
  • Coordinates required pre-operative laboratory work and other testing, documenting and reporting pertinent results appropriately.
  • Performs thorough and accurate patient assessments within the LPN scope of practice and reports pertinent findings to the RN, anesthesia provider, surgeon, or supervisor as appropriate.
  • Documents nursing care and patient information completely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains patient safety as a primary concern at all times and responds appropriately to emergency situations within the scope of practice.
  • Provides patient and family education regarding pre-operative instructions, medications, preparation for surgery, and other assigned areas of care.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, providers, and members of the surgical team.
  • Supervises and directs, as delegated and within the LPN scope of practice, the activities of non-professional personnel.
  • Utilizes equipment and supplies effectively and efficiently and assists with stocking, replenishing, and preparing supplies.
  • Participates as a team member in planning and implementing patient care.
  • Reviews the schedule and assists with preparation for upcoming surgical cases.
  • Performs and documents daily assignments, including general housekeeping and maintenance of the work environment.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe patient care environment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic nursing principles and appropriate rationale for nursing actions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility

  • Current Nebraska Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Previous clinical nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous pre-operative or ambulatory surgery experience preferred.
  • IV skills preferred.
