Responsibilities
- Provide Labor and Delivery nursing care across antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum needs
- Manage high-acuity situations including hemorrhage/shock and emergency response support
- Deliver care during adult cardiac arrest and infant/neonatal arrest events
- Support Rapid Response/Code team interventions as needed
- Perform peri-delivery tasks including assisting with high-risk deliveries and facilitating vaginal deliveries
- Participate in C-section workflow including circulating and/or recovering post-procedure as required
- Assist with operative vaginal delivery (forceps/vacuum extraction)
- Use sterile techniques for procedures including sterile vaginal exams and sterile speculum exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
- Conduct and support antepartum testing and monitoring including NST (Non Stress Tests), OCT (Oxytocin Challenge Tests), and use of EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring)
- Support antepartum triage of obstetrical patients and perform reflex checks/edema assessment/clonus as indicated
- Administer and manage medication therapies including anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), prostaglandins, and terbutaline
- Perform IV therapy responsibilities including starting and maintaining IVs, using infusion pumps/drips/IV monitoring, drawing venous blood, and maintaining central lines (CVC/PICC)
- Support blood administration including administration of blood and blood products
- Provide neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation support, radiant warmers/thermoregulation, and infant ID/security banding
- Support postpartum care including couplet care, postpartum hemorrhage response, pregnancy-induced hypertension management, bladder distension care, fundus/lochia/perineum care, episiotomy/incisional care, and Foley catheter insertion/management
- Provide breastfeeding/lactation support and manage electric/manual breast pump use
- Handle newborn care responsibilities including cord care, newborn assessment, newborn hypoglycemia support, infant identification, and discharge teaching to parents
- Assist with selected surgical and procedural cases including cervical cerclage, D&C, and tubal ligation as assigned
- Deliver care for a wide range of patient conditions including asthma, cardiac disease, COVID, diabetes mellitus, HELLP syndrome, HIV, infectious disease, malpresentations (breech/face/brow), multiple gestation, placenta previa/abruptio, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, RH incompatibilities, seizure disorder, substance abuse, uterine rupture, and VBAC management/trial of labor
Requirements
- 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Patient ratio experience: 1:2
- Charting system: Epic (required)
- Travel experience: not required (L/D experience required to function independently)
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, FHM, NRP
