Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), School Based
Location: Lakewood, WA
Setting: Elementary, Middle and High School
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-Time School Hours
Compensation: $39 - $42 per hour, W-2 Employee
Employment Type: Full-Time
Role Summary
The LPN will be providing one-to-one care for a medically complex student; responsible for tracheostomy and ventilator support, seizure management, GJ tube care, and assistance related to quadriplegia, both in the school setting and during transportation to and from home.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialized, one-on-one care to a medically complex student within the school setting
One-on-one nursing support on the bus to and from the student’s home
Perform pediatric tracheostomy care, including closed-system suctioning and monitoring respiratory status
Administer oxygen via trach and complete spot-check pulse oximetry as needed
Recognize and respond to seizure activity, including administration of rescue medication (diazepam)
Support G-tube venting and basic GJ-tube management (no feeds required during school hours)
Monitor for signs of illness (e.g., fever, secretion changes) and escalate concerns appropriately
Assist with activities of daily living, including diapering, transfers, positioning, and hands-on care
Implement sensory accommodations and support for a student with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)
Work independently while maintaining clear, consistent communication with school staff and family
Complete accurate documentation and provide daily updates to parents/guardians
Required Qualifications
Active Washington LPN license in good standing with the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON).
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Ventilator and tracheostomy experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working with school-age children.
Familiarity with Washington State Nurse Staffing standards and trauma-informed care practices.
Experience supervising CNAs or unlicensed assistive personnel.
Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
