Job description:

Fulltime Registered Nurse – Detox

We are seeking a dependable and compassionate Per Diem Registered Nurse to join our detox nursing team. The RN is responsible for providing safe, patient-centered nursing care to individuals experiencing substance withdrawal and co-occurring medical or behavioral health needs.

Available Shifts

Day shift: 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. 3 times a week with rotating weekends.

Responsibilities

Complete nursing admissions, assessments, and discharge procedures.

Perform comprehensive and ongoing nursing assessments.

Monitor patients for signs and symptoms of acute alcohol, opioid, benzodiazepine, and other substance withdrawal.

Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders and facility policies.

Utilize withdrawal assessment tools, including CIWA-Ar and COWS, as applicable.

Recognize changes in patient condition and notify the provider or initiate emergency interventions when necessary.

Monitor vital signs, withdrawal symptoms, medication effectiveness, and potential adverse reactions.

Provide patient education regarding medications, withdrawal symptoms, recovery, overdose prevention, and discharge instructions.

Complete timely, accurate, and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record.

Coordinate care with providers, nursing staff, intake, clinical staff, pharmacies, and outside healthcare facilities.

Respond appropriately to medical and behavioral health emergencies.

Maintain accurate controlled-substance documentation and medication counts.

Support a safe and therapeutic environment through effective communication, de-escalation, and professional boundaries.

Participate in shift reports and communicate relevant changes in patient condition.

Follow infection-prevention, medication-safety, patient-safety, and regulatory requirements.

Perform additional nursing duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.

Current BLS certification.

At least one year of nursing experience in acute care, behavioral health, psychiatric nursing, substance-use treatment, or detoxification nursing.

Proficiency in medication administration and nursing documentation.

Ability to recognize and respond to acute withdrawal symptoms and changes in patient condition.

Strong assessment, clinical judgment, communication, and time-management skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.

Ability to manage multiple patient-care priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Must be able to work at least two designated holidays per year.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous detoxification or substance-use treatment experience.

Experience using CIWA-Ar and COWS withdrawal-assessment tools.

Experience caring for patients with co-occurring mental health conditions.

Familiarity with electronic medical records and controlled-substance documentation.

Crisis-intervention or de-escalation experience.
