About This Position

Job Summary

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive clinical care in collaboration with the physician while also functioning as an independent practitioner within their scope of practice. This position serves as an integral member of the clinical care team, supporting the surgeon in the operating room (as applicable), independently evaluating, and managing patients in the clinic, and providing clinical services through outreach clinics and other community-based settings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Independently evaluates, assesses, diagnoses, and manages patients within the APP's scope of practice, clinical privileges, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Obtains comprehensive medical histories and performs physical examinations.

Develops and implements individualized treatment and care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.

Orders, interprets, and follows up on appropriate diagnostic studies, laboratory testing, and imaging.

Initiates, manages, and modifies treatment plans based on clinical findings and established standards of care.

Prescribes medications and treatments in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Performs appropriate office-based procedures within established competencies and scope of practice.

Provides preoperative, postoperative, and follow-up care for surgical and procedural patients.

Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medications, procedures, postoperative care, and prevention strategies.

Documents all patient encounters, assessments, plans, procedures, and communications accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.

Provides scheduled independent clinic visits, including new patient evaluations, follow-up appointments, postoperative visits, and other appropriate patient encounters.

Assists in triaging patient calls, referrals, clinical questions, and urgent concerns.

Facilitates appropriate referrals, diagnostic testing, procedures, and follow-up care.

Supports efficient clinic flow and collaborates with physicians, nurses, schedulers, and other staff to optimize patient care.

Participates in efforts to improve appointment availability, patient throughput, and continuity of care.

Provides clinical services in designated outreach clinic locations to expand access to specialty care.

Independently evaluates and manages appropriate patients during outreach clinics within established scope, privileges, and clinical protocols.

Collaborates with physicians and local healthcare providers to coordinate care for outreach patients.

Establishes and maintains effective relationships with referring providers and community partners.

Community Outreach APP Responsibilities

Assists with development and expansion of outreach services based on community needs and patient access opportunities.

Ensures appropriate follow-up and continuity of care for patients seen through outreach services.

Represents the organization professionally within the community and promotes access to high-quality specialty care.

Participates in development and implementation of clinical protocols, patient education materials, and standardized care pathways.

Assists with program development, growth initiatives, and expansion of specialty services.

Participates in community education, physician outreach, health fairs, screening initiatives, and other organizational outreach activities as appropriate.

Surgical APP Responsibilities

Assists the surgeon during operative procedures within established training, competency, and credentialing requirements.

Participates in preoperative evaluation and surgical planning.

Assists with intraoperative patient positioning, surgical exposure, hemostasis, tissue handling, wound closure, and other appropriate surgical activities under the direction of the surgeon.

Provides postoperative assessment and management of surgical patients.

Participates in rounding and postoperative follow-up as applicable.

Communicates pertinent clinical findings, changes in patient status, and recommendations to the surgeon and care team.

Coordinates surgical patient care between the clinic, operating room, hospital, imaging, and other healthcare settings.

Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to other members of the healthcare team.

Participates in meetings and committees as assigned.

· Serves as an on-call APP on a rotating basis for Intervention Radiology and Breast Center. The provider is expected to be reachable and ready to respond outside of normal business hours.

Performs other duties consistent with the position, professional scope of practice, and organizational needs.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduate of AMA approved Physician Assistant program or Graduate of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse program required

One to three years’ experience as PA/APRN – surgical or oncology experience preferred

Sterile technique and infection prevention experience desired

Certifications/Licensure

Active license though State of Nebraska

Active Board Certification

Active Controlled Substance Registration Certificate through the Department of Justice (DEA) is desired

Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)

Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)

Ability to transition seamlessly between supporting the physician, independently managing patients, and collaborating with the broader multidisciplinary team

Effective communication skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience

Demonstrated ability to interact with patients, families, staff, physicians, and all levels of employees

Ability to effectively contribute as a team member promoting cooperation, collaboration, and flexibility in working with others to achieve quality patient care

Demonstrated critical thinking, problem analysis, and problem resolution skills

Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly

Comply with all state/federal regulations (including HIPAA), company policies, standards, and health & safety rules

Ability to maintain confidentiality, security, and standards of ethics with all information

Strong discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information

Ability to be accountable for quality customer service and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations

Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and an independent, accountable, dependable performer

Ability to set priorities, be flexible and manage multiple projects and/or tasks simultaneously

Ability to work effectively in a high volume, fast-paced environment

Strong computer skills including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), PACS and Microsoft Office applications

Capability to perform on-call, shift, holiday, and weekends when required

Ability to travel occasionally (1-3 days per month or less)

Pay: $94,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
