Position Summary:

Overall management of the Health Services Department for the Community. Assure health services issues of residents are addressed, as well as other service issues that have a potential impact upon the health of residents. Orientation, education, and training for new health services staff. Schedules health services staff and assists with specific components of medication room operations. 24/7 accountability for the Community. Working shifts and supporting front line staff when needed. Part of the on-call rotation with RCMs and the other Health Care Leaders. Responsible for covering staffing when needed. May work any shifts, day, pm, NOC and weekends, and or holidays to support to care for the residents.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

All responsibilities are to be performed within the scope of practice per state or provincial regulations.

Maintain resident, employee, and community information in strict confidence (with community management or other employees as necessary).

Assure a stable health services staff of optimal quality and quantity by recruiting, hiring, supervising, evaluating, counseling, and, when necessary, terminating employees.

Assure regular competency evaluations of health services employees are completed.

Perform all responsibilities related to delegation of nursing tasks (in states or provinces in which delegation is utilized).

Perform staff education duties, including but not limited to:

Educating and training employees through conducting new employee general orientation and regular education and training classes, including all requirements of federal and state or provincial regulations.

Assure health services employees are educated and trained using Resident Care Manager, Resident Assistant, Memory Care, Charge Nurse, and Medication Assistant Resource guidelines.

Develop, schedule, and conduct continuing education and training for health services employees and other employees as necessary.

Assist Executive Director in developing and implementing QA program for in-service training.

Complete quality assurance audits

Complete or assist with completing Nursing Assessments and auxiliary evaluations of residents and all other required and/or appropriate evaluations, addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

Attend Service Plan Meetings with the Resident Care Managers.

Completing monthly work schedule for all Nursing Department.

Review, approve and submit timecard information for all of the Nursing Department

Develop or assist with developing service plans, assuring health services issues, as well as other issues that potentially impact the health of residents, are effectively addressed.

Schedule and ensure quarterly Pharmacy and Physician meetings.

Monitor MAR:

Assure medications and treatments are administered as ordered.

Assure parameters for administration of PRN medications and treatments and assure they are entered on MAR.

Assure appropriate diagnosis for medications and treatments are entered on MAR.

Monitor alert charting, especially to assure appropriate employee response to issues.

Monitor Shift Change Notes & Communications Log.

Complete review of all Resident Incident Reports.

Effectively utilize and coordinate services with home health, hospice, and other agencies.

Assure health services employees adhere to all medication room systems.

Investigate controlled substance count discrepancies.

Effectively communicate with residents, their family members, and other concerned parties.

Assure compliance with all federal and state or provincial regulations pertaining to health services.

Strong Management Skills, including strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Meet state or provincial health related requirements.

Demonstrate leadership ability with comprehensive knowledge of Nursing and health care practices and techniques.

Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Maintain current CPR certification.

Maintain current professional license (RN or LPN/LVN)
