About This Position
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Travel Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional care to cancer patients across various healthcare settings in Kansas. The ideal candidate will possess extensive oncology experience, strong clinical skills, and the flexibility to adapt to diverse environments. As a Travel Oncology RN, you will deliver comprehensive patient care, support treatment plans, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Duties
Provide specialized oncology nursing care, including chemotherapy administration, symptom management, and patient education on treatment protocols.
Perform comprehensive patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations tailored to oncology patients.
Utilize advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic and Cerner for accurate documentation and medical records management.
Administer medications including IV infusions, botulinum toxin treatments for specific conditions, and other prescribed therapies while adhering to aseptic techniques.
Conduct diagnostic evaluations such as laboratory specimen collection, CT scans preparation, and basic imaging procedures.
Manage acute pain and side effects related to cancer treatments through appropriate interventions and medication administration.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians specializing in hematology/oncology, hospice & palliative medicine, and infectious disease care to develop individualized patient care plans.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain high standards of infection control throughout all patient interactions.
Educate patients and families about disease processes, treatment options, side effect management, and long-term care strategies including memory care and geriatrics considerations.
Support triage activities by assessing urgent needs and coordinating timely interventions within hospital or outpatient settings.
Requirements
Certification: AHA BLS required at the time of submission.
License: Valid Kansas (KS) or multistate license; no exceptions; no hits allowed.
Education: ADN or BSN.
Experience: Minimum of 1 recent year of Oncology experience and 2 years experience as a RN required
Specialty experience: Oncology/Hematology preferred.
Vaccinations: Immunity status or proof of vaccination for Hep B, MMR, Varicella (via titer or series completion), TDaP, Influenza (or exemption during flu season), and TB documentation.
Certifications: Chemotherapy Certification (preferred).
Ability to work in a 21-bed hematology/oncology unit providing inpatient chemotherapy, symptom management, hospice/end-of-life care, and specialized medical care.
Ability to meet shift requirements: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours guaranteed weekly; every other weekend rotation; one holiday off request; float requirements for post-surgical and medical inpatient floors.
No first-time travelers allowed.
Charting system: Epic (test-out option available).
