Methodist Endoscopy Center, LLC is seeking a Registered Nurse

Clinical Role, Duties and Tasks:

· Assist with admission and discharge of patients in the surgery center.

· Elicit and record pertinent medical history.

· Proficient at pre-procedure preparation of patients including pre-op education, consent, necessary lab work and ensuring patient transportation home.

· Show awareness of psychological needs of patients and family.

· Monitor patient’s condition and maintain accurate documentation concerning patient care.

· Monitor pulse, blood pressure, respirations, SaO2% and continuous cardiac monitoring as outlined in policies and procedures.

· Maintain open airway and administer O2 as ordered.

· Administer oral and IM medications.

· Monitor input accurately as needed, including IV fluids, oral intake.

· Perform dressing changes as needed.

· Assist in the preparation of the procedure room including preparing necessary medications and solutions as well as obtaining and setting up the appropriate instruments for each procedure.

· Familiar with dosage, route of administration, action and side effects of medication commonly used in the surgery center.

· Administer medication, intravenous fluids as ordered by physician.

· Provide nursing care based on physician orders, observations and basic nursing principles.

· Demonstrate technical skills in the procedures performed in the surgery center.

· Collect lab specimens, label appropriately and send to appropriate facilities as ordered.

· Works within the scope of practice as defined by Nebraska Nurse Practice Act.

· Perform nursing actions consistent with established policies and procedures when providing direct/indirect patient care.

· Respond appropriately to emergency situations.

· Perform telephone triage.

· Clean, care and maintain equipment in optimal condition. Report any malfunctions

· Assist with care of instruments including cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, lubricating and reporting needed repairs if trained to do so.

· Regarded as a resource of complete and accurate direction/information by peers and others

· Follow safety and infection control procedures.

· Assist patients and physicians as indicated.

· Assist with scheduling tests as needed.

· Maintain a clean, well-kept work area.

Communication:

· Communicate relevant information to charge nurse, physician and staff to maintain continuity of care.

· Notify physician if vital signs are not within normal limits or patient’s condition deteriorates.

· Keep family informed of patient’s condition during the procedure and any unexpected delays.

· Give post-procedure instructions to patient and family including medication and diet education as well as activity restriction and follow-up appointment.

· Provide pre-procedure and post-procedure patient education.

· Evaluate the patient’s capabilities and/or limitations to understanding medical interventions.

· Listen carefully, check on understanding before responding, and accept and offer feedback.

· Communicate effectively to solve problems at the personal and facility level.

Licensing/Registration/Certification

· Required: Possess a valid State Registered Nurse license.

·Required: Certification in BCLS, ACLS if procedure room trained.

· Preferred: Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse

Member SGNA.

Education

· Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

· Preferred: B.S.N. or Baccalaureate in health-related field

(previous pertinent experience will be considered)

Continuing Professional Education:

· Participates in the Performance Improvement program.

· Attends 50% of the educational in-services provided at the center.

· Attends 75% of the monthly nursing staff meetings.

· Demonstrates desire to enrich personal and professional growth by attending in-services and educational opportunities.

· Keeps abreast of new techniques, procedures and medications.

Pay: $40.00 - $43.00 per hour
