Position Details

• Role: Registered Nurse (RN - General), Labor and Delivery RN
• Location: Anchorage, AK
• Employment type: Travel/Contract
• Schedule: Nights (3x12 Hours), 19:00–07:30
• Duration: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed hours: 36 hours/week
• Start date: 2026-08-31

Responsibilities

• Administer and manage IV therapy, including starting and maintaining IVs, drawing venous blood, and using infusion pumps/drips/IV monitoring
• Administer blood and blood products
• Provide Labor and Delivery nursing support, including amnioinfusion (required) and assisting with high-risk delivery
• Support vaginal delivery and assist with C-section workflows, including circulating for C-section and recovering C-section (including required scrub responsibilities for C-section)
• Perform sterile vaginal exams and provide sterile speculum exam support (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
• Provide antepartum care, including NST (Non Stress Tests), triage of obstetrical patients, and EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring)
• Support fetal monitoring, including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns; use external and internal fetal monitoring and IUPC (Intrauterine Pressure Catheter)
• Perform reflex checks/edema assessment/clonus and manage care for multiple gestations (required)
• Provide postpartum care, including care for cesarean section patients, couplet care, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, vaginal delivery, and multiple births
• Support postpartum care procedures, including bladder distension (required), Foley catheter insertion/management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, and wound assessment/care
• Provide breastfeeding/lactation support (required) and manage episiotomy/incisional care
• Support newborn care in the delivery room, including APGAR scores, neonatal resuscitation, radiant warmers/thermoregulation, collecting cord samples, and ID/security banding (“baby catcher” support)
• Provide newborn care tasks including newborn hypoglycemia (required), thermoregulation (required), cord care (required), newborn assessment, and discharge teaching to parents (required)
• Support medical therapies and medication administration, including antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, pitocin (oxytocin), and terbutaline
• Participate in pain management support, including epidural anesthesia and required general anesthesia and required nitrous oxide
• Assist with postpartum and high-acuity obstetric conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia (required), premature rupture of membranes (required), preterm labor (required), and VBAC management/trial of labor (required)
• Support surgical case/procedures including cervical cerclage and D&C
• Maintain infection control, including isolation precautions/PPE
• Support required vaccine administration activities (required)

Requirements

• Years of experience: 1 year(s) (required)
• Charting system: Epic (required)
• ACLS (required)
• AWHONN Advanced (required)
• AWHONN Intermediate (required)
• NRP (required)
• Amnioinfusion experience/coverage is required (as part of the role)
• Required skills and clinical tasks include: general anesthesia, nitrous oxide, scrub for C-section, circumcision/assessing site post-op, cord care, newborn hypoglycemia, thermoregulation, bladder distension, electric/manual breast pump use, pregnancy-related care elements (pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor), and VBAC management/trial of labor
• Preferred: previous charge experience
• Preferred: teaching hospital experience
• Travel experience required: No
