About This Position

Facility: AMC Sheboygan County Department: Medical-Surgical Float Pool Type: Travel Contract Pay Rate: $52 Schedule: 36 Hours per Week | 12-Hour Shifts Shift: Nights | 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM Weekend Rotation: Every Other Weekend On-Call: None Holiday Requirement: Up to 50% of Holidays Floating: All Inpatient Med-Surg Areas and ER Holding/Boarding

About the Role

MedOp Solutions is seeking an experienced Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse for a night-shift Float Pool travel assignment. This position is ideal for a flexible RN who is comfortable caring for a diverse Medical-Surgical population and floating frequently based on hospital needs.

Candidates must have at least 2 years of Medical-Surgical experience, strong cardiac and general nursing skills, and previous EPIC experience. First-time travelers are welcome.

Facility Overview

  • 101 licensed beds
  • Level IV Trauma Center
  • Primary Stroke Center
  • Traveler-friendly environment with a strong teamwork culture

    Unit Information

    This is a Medical-Surgical Float Pool position. Travelers may work across multiple inpatient units and should expect to float frequently, including to ER Holding/Boarding.

    Units typically have approximately 23–24 beds, depending on assignment.

    Patient Population

    General Medical-Surgical / Oncology

  • Oncology patients, including patients receiving chemotherapy; traveler will not administer chemotherapy
  • General medical conditions including CHF, COPD, cellulitis, and GI bleeds
  • Gallbladder and appendix procedures
  • Colectomies
  • Ostomy patients
  • TURPs
  • Outpatient antibiotic and fluid infusions
  • Pediatric patients over 1 year of age may be present on the unit, but travelers are not required to take pediatric assignments

    Orthopedic / Neurology

  • Total hip replacements
  • Total knee replacements
  • Shoulder procedures
  • Spine surgeries
  • Stroke
  • Altered mental status
  • TIA versus stroke observation
  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness and syncope

    Cardiac

  • Heart failure
  • Chest pain
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Post-cardiac catheterization
  • Post-TEE
  • Post-cardioversion

    Candidates without cardiac post-procedure experience may be considered with manager approval.

    Patient Ratios

  • Days: 1:4–6
  • Nights: Approximately 1:6

    Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care across assigned Medical-Surgical units
  • Perform assessments and implement individualized plans of care
  • Manage admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Administer medications and IV therapies
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms
  • Manage chest tubes and stable tracheostomies
  • Provide central line and implanted port care
  • Perform Foley catheter insertion and care
  • Manage feeding tubes
  • Care for patients utilizing CPAP, BiPAP, and Airvo with Respiratory Therapy support
  • Manage and titrate approved IV drips
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary clinical teams
  • Maintain accurate documentation in EPIC
  • Adapt safely to frequent floating and changing patient assignments

    Required

  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical RN experience
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS
  • Current NIHSS
  • EPIC experience required
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Strong IV skills
  • Chest tube management
  • Stable tracheostomy management
  • Port and central line care
  • Foley catheter insertion and care
  • Feeding tube management
  • Knowledge of CPAP, BiPAP, and Airvo

    IV Drip Experience

    Candidates should have experience titrating:

  • Cardizem
  • Amiodarone
  • Insulin
  • Argatroban

    Candidates without the required drip experience may be considered with manager approval.

    First-time travelers are accepted.

    Technology & Equipment

  • EPIC – experience required
  • Alaris IV pumps
  • Pyxis medication dispensing
  • Remote telemetry monitoring

    Support Staff

  • HUC available on day shift
  • CNA support:
  • Days: approximately 1:5–6
  • Evenings: approximately 1:6–7
  • Nights: approximately 1:10
  • Charge RN carries a patient assignment, which may be full or reduced
  • Phlebotomy available for peripheral lab draws
  • House supervisor assists in locating resources for difficult IV access
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • Hospitalist coverage 24/7 with communication through EPIC Secure Chat
  • PT, OT, and Speech Therapy available during weekdays with limited weekend hours
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with telemetry technicians

    If telemetry technician staffing is limited, RNs may be asked to assist with patient monitoring.

    Floating Requirements

    Floating is a significant component of this assignment.

    Travelers may float anywhere in the hospital where Medical-Surgical patients are being cared for, including:

  • General Medical-Surgical
  • Oncology
  • Orthopedic/Neurology
  • Cardiac
  • Other inpatient Medical-Surgical areas
  • ER Holding/Boarding

    Candidates should anticipate frequent floating to ER Holding/Boarding.

    Orientation

    Orientation includes:

  • One full shift for login access, paperwork, EPIC access, and unit introduction
  • One 12-hour unit orientation shift
  • The manager will determine which unit(s) the traveler initially orients to
  • Brief unit-specific orientation may be provided when floating to a new area

    Scheduling & Expectations

  • 36 hours per week
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call
  • Schedules are created approximately 4–6 weeks at a time and typically provided 2 weeks in advance
  • Block scheduling may be considered upon request but is not guaranteed
  • Requested time off requires manager approval
  • Travelers may be required to work up to 50% of holidays occurring during the contract
  • SimpliFi Clinical Interviewing: Yes, with manager approval
