Responsibilities
Provide skilled Labor and Delivery, antepartum, postpartum, newborn, and emergency nursing care while supporting safe, compassionate outcomes for patients and families in Eureka, CA.
Requirements
- Current ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, and NRP certifications
- Patient ratio experience of 1:1–3
- Epic charting experience
- IV therapy and phlebotomy, including administration of blood and blood products, drawing venous blood, maintaining central lines including CVC and PICC, starting and maintaining IVs, and using infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
- Labor and Delivery management: amnioinfusion; assisting with high-risk delivery and vaginal delivery; circulating for C-section; forceps/vacuum extraction; hemorrhage/shock; recovering C-section patients; and sterile vaginal examination
- Work setting experience in antepartum, high-risk antepartum, Labor and Delivery, LDRP, Mother/Baby, and settings with more than 300 facility births per month
- Medication administration experience with anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin/oxytocin, prostaglandins, and terbutaline
- Neonatal care in the delivery room, including APGAR scores, Baby Nurse/Baby Catcher duties, collecting cord samples, ID/security banding, radiant warmers, and thermoregulation
- Antepartum care and procedures, including assisting with amniocentesis; assisting with sterile speculum exams for effacement, dilation, station, and presentation; NST/non-stress tests; OCT/oxytocin challenge tests; reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus checks; sterile vaginal exams; triage of obstetrical patients; and use of EFM/external fetal heart monitoring
- Newborn care, including assisting with circumcision and assessing the site post-operatively; car seat education; cord care; discharge teaching to parents; infant identification; metabolic screening; neonatal abstinence syndrome care; newborn assessment; newborn hypoglycemia care; phototherapy; teaching circumcision care to parents; and thermoregulation
- Postpartum care and procedures, including Baby Friendly protocols, breastfeeding and lactation support, Foley catheter insertion and management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, and wound assessment and care
- Surgical procedures including cervical cerclage and D&C
- Postpartum care for cesarean section, couplet care, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and vaginal delivery
- Pain management experience with epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, IV conscious sedation, nitrous oxide, pain assessment and management, and IV PCA use
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency care, including interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Professional practices including isolation precautions/PPE and vaccine administration
