Responsibilities
Provide safe, compassionate nursing care throughout labor, delivery, antepartum, postpartum, and newborn care. Support maternal-fetal assessments, delivery procedures, neonatal transition, patient education, documentation, medication administration, pain management, and emergency response while collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team.
Requirements
- Certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Intermediate, BLS, and NRP
- Charting: Epic required
- IV therapy and phlebotomy: Administration of blood and blood products; drawing venous blood; maintaining central lines (CVC/PICC); starting and maintaining IVs; use of infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring
- Labor and delivery management: Amnioinfusion; assisting with high-risk delivery; assisting with vaginal delivery; circulating for C-section; forceps/vacuum extraction; hemorrhage/shock; recovering C-section patients; sterile vaginal examination
- Work settings: Antepartum; facility births/month over 300; high-risk antepartum; Labor and Delivery; LDRP; Mother/Baby
- Medication administration: Anticoagulation therapy; antihypertensives; antiseizure medications; insulin drips; magnesium sulfate therapy; Pitocin (oxytocin); prostaglandins; terbutaline
- Neonatal care in the delivery room: APGAR scores; baby nurse (“baby catcher”); collecting cord samples; ID/security banding; radiant warmers and thermoregulation
- Antepartum care and procedures: Assisting with amniocentesis; assisting with sterile speculum examination for effacement, dilation, station, and presentation; NST (non-stress tests); OCT (oxytocin challenge tests); reflex checks, edema assessment, and clonus; sterile vaginal examination; triage of obstetrical patients; use of EFM (external fetal heart monitoring)
- Newborn care: Assisting with circumcision and assessing the site post-operatively; car seat education; cord care; discharge teaching to parents; infant identification; metabolic screen; neonatal abstinence syndrome; newborn assessment; newborn hypoglycemia; phototherapy; teaching circumcision care to parents; thermoregulation
- Postpartum care and procedures: Baby-friendly protocols; breastfeeding and lactation support; Foley catheter insertion and management; fundus, lochia, and perineum care; wound assessment and care
- Surgical cases and procedures: Cervical cerclage; D&C
- Postpartum patient care: Cesarean section; couplet care; multiple births; postpartum hemorrhage; pregnancy-induced hypertension; vaginal delivery
- Pain management: Epidural anesthesia; general anesthesia; IV conscious sedation; nitrous oxide; pain assessment and management; use of PCA (IV)
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency care: Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Professional practice: Isolation precautions/PPE; vaccine administration

Experience
- At least 1 year of nursing experience
- Experience with patient ratios of 1:1–3
