About This Position

Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate nursing care for neonatal patients across a range of acuity levels.
- Assess patient conditions, respond to changes, and communicate clinical updates with the care team.
- Administer treatments and medications within the scope of practice and established protocols.
- Support parents and families through education, communication, and compassionate care.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and promote patient safety throughout each shift.
Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse licensure appropriate for practice in Texas.
- BLS certification.
- NRP Advanced certification.
- Epic charting experience is required.
- IV therapy, including administration of blood and blood products, arterial line management, central line blood draws, central line and implanted line care, starting and maintaining IVs, UAC (umbilical artery catheter), and UVC (umbilical vein catheter).
- Medication and emergency medication skills, including anti-seizure medications, antibiotics and antivirals, IV vasopressors, neonatal dosage calculations, steroids, and surfactants.
- Professional neonatal skills, including APGAR scoring, developmental care, patient and family teaching, phlebotomy, and thermoregulation.
- Neurologic skills, including assisting with lumbar puncture, ICP monitoring, neonatal abstinence syndrome, seizure disorders, therapeutic hypothermia with a cooling blanket, and ventricular peritoneal (VP) shunts.
- Endocrine and metabolic skills, including blood glucose monitoring, hyperbilirubinemia, insulin administration, and phototherapy.
- Gastrointestinal skills, including breastfeeding support and handling of breast milk, colostomy and ileostomy management and care, bottle, breast, and gavage feedings, gastroschisis and omphalocele care, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), placement and management of oral, nasogastric, and nasojejunal tubes, and post-abdominal surgery care.
- Respiratory skills, including bubble CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), high-frequency ventilation, chest tube management, meconium aspiration care, nitric oxide (iNO), oscillators, oxygen delivery systems, respiratory distress syndrome care, ETT and nasotracheal suctioning, tracheostomy care and management, and ventilator management using AC, PC, SIMV, CPAP, BiPAP, and PEEP.
- Invasive hemodynamic monitoring is required, along with telemetry and on-unit monitoring.
- Infectious disease skills, including isolation precautions and PPE, neonatal sepsis care, and sepsis workups.
- Experience working in Level 1 Nursery, NICU II, NICU III, and NICU IV settings; NICU IV experience is required.
- Experience caring for neonates under 24-28 weeks is required, as well as neonates over 34 weeks and neonates 29-34 weeks.

Experience
