Responsibilities
Support safe, efficient surgical procedures across a broad range of operating room specialties. Prepare instruments, equipment, supplies, and case carts; maintain aseptic technique; support surgical teams during procedures; care for scopes and fiber-optic equipment; and follow appropriate high-level disinfection and crash cart practices.
Requirements
Required certifications include ASATT, BLS, and NBSTSA. Required clinical skills and experience include:
- Vascular: Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, arteriovenous fistula repair, atherectomy, carotid angioplasty, carotid artery stenting, carotid endarterectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair, femoral popliteal bypass graft, laparoscopic-assisted cases, TEVAR (thoracic endovascular aortic repair), and vein stripping.
- Gynecology: Abdominal hysterectomy, anterior/posterior repair (colporrhaphy), bilateral tubal ligation, C-sections, dilation and curettage, laparoscopic-assisted gynecological procedures, tuboplasty, vaginal hysterectomy, and vulvectomy.
- Plastics: Abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, free flap-microvascular procedures, laparoscopic-assisted cases, and mastectomy with TRAM flap reconstruction.
- Neurosurgery: ALIF (anterior lumbar interbody fusion), anterior cervical fusion, cervical fusions, craniotomy, insertion of VP shunt, kyphoplasty, laminectomy/discectomy, lumbar fusion, and XLIF (extreme lateral interbody fusion).
- Work settings: Ambulatory OR, general OR, first assist, and trauma.
- Podiatry: Ankle fusion and bunionectomy.
- Orthopedic: Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, closed/open reduction of fractures, crutch fitting and education, fiberglass/synthetic cast application, laminectomy/discectomy, removal of casts/splints, removal of traction, spinal fusion, splint/immobilizer application, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, and traction application.
- General surgery: Appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection-open/laparoscopic, inguinal/umbilical hernia repair, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, partial/total thyroidectomy, and Whipple procedures.
- Professional knowledge: Aseptic technique.
- Endoscopic procedures: Bronchoscopy, colonoscopy, EGD, laparoscopic-assisted cases, and PEG tube placement/exchange.
- Equipment and supplies: Care of scopes and fiber-optic equipment, case cart preparation, crash cart practices, and high-level disinfectant (HLD).
- Urology: Circumcision, cystectomy, cystoscopy, laparoscopic-assisted cases, lithotripsy/ultrasonic lithotripsy/ESWL, nephrectomy, prostatectomy, transurethral resection of the prostate, and ureteroscopy.
- Robotics: Da Vinci robotics, Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, and gynecologic robotic surgery.
- Ear, nose, and throat: Endoscopic sinus procedures.

Experience
