Responsibilities
Support surgical teams across a broad range of operative procedures, prepare and maintain sterile fields, handle surgical instruments and supplies, and assist with safe, efficient operating room workflow. Perform first-assist duties when assigned and apply aseptic technique throughout surgical procedures.

- Vascular: Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair; arteriovenous fistula repair; atherectomy; carotid angioplasty; carotid artery stenting; carotid endarterectomy; endovascular aneurysm repair; femoral popliteal bypass graft; laparoscopic-assisted cases; TEVAR (thoracic endovascular aortic repair); vein stripping
- Gynecology: Abdominal hysterectomy; anterior/posterior repair (colporrhaphy); bilateral tubal ligation; C-sections; dilation and curettage; laparoscopic-assisted gynecological procedures; tuboplasty; vaginal hysterectomy; vulvectomy
- Plastics: Abdominoplasty; breast augmentation; free flap—microvascular; laparoscopic-assisted cases; mastectomy with TRAM flap reconstruction
- Neurosurgery: ALIF (anterior lumbar interbody fusion); anterior cervical fusion; craniotomy; kyphoplasty; laminectomy/discectomy; lumbar fusion; XLIF (extreme lateral interbody fusion)
- Work settings: Ambulatory OR; first assist; general OR; trauma
- Podiatry: Ankle fusion; bunionectomy
- General surgery: Appendectomy; cholecystectomy; colon resection—open/laparoscopic; inguinal or umbilical hernia repair; laparoscopic-assisted procedures; partial or total thyroidectomy; Whipple procedure
- Orthopedics: Arthroscopy; closed or open reduction of fractures; laminectomy/discectomy; spinal fusion; total hip replacement; total knee replacement
- Professional knowledge: Aseptic technique
- Endoscopic procedures: Bronchoscopy; colonoscopy; EGD; laparoscopic-assisted cases; PEG tube placement or exchange
- Equipment and supplies: Care of scopes and fiber-optic equipment; case cart; crash cart; high-level disinfectant (HLD)
- Urology: Circumcision; cystectomy; cystoscopy; laparoscopic-assisted cases; lithotripsy, ultrasonic lithotripsy, or ESWL; nephrectomy; prostatectomy; transurethral resection of the prostate; ureteroscopy
- Robotics: da Vinci robotics; da Vinci Xi Surgical System; gynecologic robotic surgery
- ENT: Endoscopic sinus procedures; laparoscopic-assisted cases; radical neck dissection; tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy; tracheostomy
- Cardiovascular: Endovascular aortic repair (EVAR); transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR); ventricular assist device (VAD)
- Bariatrics: Gastric bypass
